when i was 5 my father started to let me have a sip of his beer on new years. as i got older especially early teens my cousins and i would mix drinks for each other. Then at 16 i ordered my first drink, a straight shot of tequilla, in mexico. I think my grandfather, uncle and father all had the idea that if you give them a little bit then they never really abuse it when they get older. ingrain the responsible drinking from a young age kind of thing. now it's CR XR sipping or Capt Morg Private Stock and coke. once in a while i'll switch things up.

Beer...I was probably 14 and I hated it...go figure.
I acquired the taste for it in college...go figure.
My first Sierra Nevada pale ale in 1994 or so was a turning point for me...boy meets craft beer, boy falls in love, boy starts brewing.

this is gonna sound sad. i got hammered off mikes hard when i was 18. i seriously got naked and threw myself down a flight of stairs. woke up with the WORST hang over ever, and went to class.

i was seriously a wreck. i picked up a bottle, but kinda flipped it upside down, and tried drinking out the bottom, without me knowing what was going on, while the contents of the bottle spilled.

i also was dealing with a break up the next year, chugged a bottle of jack (a pint) in less then 3 minutes. i was on a mission. my friends said i went from zero to done in 10 minutes. it should be noted that we dug a hole 6 feet deep by 8 feet wide. why? because digging a hole when you are sad actually helps. dont ask me why, it just does. anyways, we dug the hole, had a fire in it, and i drank.

i also hated beer at first. id have to choke it down. i went to western at 21, and found myself drinking it alot, (i mean 4 days a week of heavy heavy drinking) so i kinda developed a taste for it fast.

My first finished drink was a screwdriver, at the age of 20 during a small celebration for my friend's 21st birthday.

It was also the first time I got drunk since I did several straight shots of vodka after.

It was also the first time I watched the movie Labyrinth.

alex, if you are ever down, do it. it seriously helped me out. it sounds so stupid, but i went to my buds, picked up a shovel, and dug. and i dug. and i just kept digging. his yard was really sandy. the hole has filled in, but not completely. you can still see where it was. that was 6 years ago.

I'm not a parent, or some human developmental scientist, but I have to call bullshit on a 1 year old being able to either grasp or entirely drink a cup of beer.

He would have probably got developmental problems from drinking it.

I had alcoholic champagne at a wedding when I was ten. Woo hoo.

First drink I would count was a glass of peach shnapps and orange juice at my cousin's cabin in Maine when I was seventeen. I'd previously had peach shnapps (just a couple sips so am not counting it) and liked it, and it tasted like it would go well with orange juice, which is just about my favorite thing in the entire world, so I mixed them when offered alcohol. Since then, I've had a variety of liquor and wine, most of it with the knowledge of my mother but not my father. (Basically, it's all been legal because it's been consumed in people's homes with the approval of a parent... lol) I'm turning twenty-one next April; I already have some idea of the drinks I want to order. My birthday falls on a break from school, too. I'm sure my mother will take me out.
