Beck ranted for weeks about how the Obama administration was going to reverse the second amendment and take away your guns. The campaign and administration have NEVER even put forth a position on changing anything firearm related.

What happened? A guy in Pittsburgh killed a couple cops because he thought they were coming to take his guns away. One of his primary sources for that belief? Glenn Beck.

Back takes radical cooky right wing extremist crazy talk (aka the militia / Freemen movements of the 90's) and talks about it on his show at length. These cooks see these things on Fox News and BELIEVE it. Before, they'd just talk about it amongst themselves. Now, here's a national TV host telling them that what they thought was happening was coming true!! He rants about the 'revolution coming', and how Obama is leading a NWO plot to destroy the country, but when the cooks who actually think thats' true act on it, he dismisses them as isolated nut jobs. He takes no responsibility for the fact that what he says riles up the cooks to DO something.

It's dangerous speech, akin to the fire in a crowded theater idea.

So it's not free speech then?

Was he listed as an accessory to murder?

You're better than that Ed, come on. This isn't a free speech argument. Beck is free to say whatever he wants. But, if he's going to say things that incite kooks to violence, he needs to be taken to task for that.

But you said "akin to yelling fire in a theater"
That's the textbook free speech argument.

If he's responsible in any way he'd be held criminally accountable....there are probably millions of people drooling for any opportunity to squish him.

I don't hold Saul Alinsky accountable for the cops murdered by the Weather Underground.

Crazies listen to crazy people. It's just human nature.

So in your view, a media figure on a news channel who repeats falsehoods with regularity if has zero culpability if those falsehoods lead to someone else committing acts of violence?

(I know Beck is an opinion guy, but let's be honest. Joe Nutcase doesn't get that distinction. )

That's a question for his conscience to answer, the constitution is pretty clear about his right.
We have laws about inciting violence and he's not in jail.

Isn't yelling fire in a crowded theater a crime?

I have a hard time getting excited about all this. I know what Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin are. I know they're both morons, and they reach a large audience of like-minded morons. I know they're going to say a bunch of stupid things that I disagree with regarding politics, religion, etc. Yawn. Just like any other day except they changed the venue.

Yes...Tom is trying to tap-dance around the 1st amendment ;)

Either Beck has the right to say what he says or he does not (as prescribed by law).

He has the right to say whatever he wants. With that right comes the responsibility to accept the consequences of those words. He doesn't. I don't even mean from a legal standpoint either.

Beck will eventually get shut down. All wackos like him eventually do. I just wonder how many more nutcases he's going to set off in the meantime.

So if a cult leader tells his followers to burn themselves, if he defends himself on the first ammendment you're saying he can get off scott free? C'mon, really?? Tom's only saying, that Glen Beck has a bunch of nutcases taking his words as gospel, probably fully knowing they could go kill someone. I stayed the hell out of DC for that reason today.
