AHHHHHH, good point, thats something i didnt think about. good call. still, im sure some arenas are already fit for it in that respect.

as for the seats, that wouldnt be an issue, because the bottom several rows are just pulled out to the extreme. they would just fold them in slightly, so the seats would still be there, just the space between the rows would be less. thats how it was for van andel arena and the palace of auburn hills, anyways. think of how a highschool gym bleacher system works. they fold in. they maximize the space between rows so if the rows are retracted in a little, all thats reduced is the space between rows. so pulling each side back 6.5 feet wouldnt be a big deal and reduce seating.

i guess its a mute point. it was voted on, and every single GM voted no on the ice surface.

so were clear, im not trying to be difficult, im just up for some friendly debate.

It's cool. I'm finding myself to be the difficult one lately, and I'm not sure why.

Tom, you got your dimensions wrong for international ice.

Official NHL rinks size at 85 × 200 ft (26 × 61 m). The dimensions originate from the size of the Victoria Skating Rink in Montreal, Canada.

Official Olympic/International rinks have dimensions of 30 × 61 m (98 × 200 ft)

All the same length, just wider, and if you account it is only 6 feet on each side of the rink, maybe a loss of 100 seats in the first row, or as mike has stated, you just pull the seats closer together on the sides of the rink.

im the same way. i think im depressed.

one last international ice theory before i go and get drunk.

intensity. its tough enough to maintain intensity through an 82 game, 6 month long season. as if the ice was bigger, less hitting, ect, the game would lose a TON of intensity. and i know the olympics are intense, but thats an 11 day tournament were ya lose, your done. of course the playoffs would remain intense, but the regular season? it would be like every game is against the devils.

European leagues and the KHL don't even play over 60 games (excluding playoffs)

yeah i know. but when you watch those games, dont you feel like they lack the intensity of a game here? i think that might be a reason why russians are "robots" and euro players "lack heart" in some peoples minds.. just a theory of mine.

NOW im leaving.

I think it's because the physical game is much more emphazised in North America (and Finland). IMO it has nothing to do with the size of the ice.

It has everything to do with the size of the ice, the larger the ice the less open ice hits and physicality, at least to me. because with the ice being 15 feet wider it really does make the game less physical.

thats how i feel, really, but phil has a point as well. but the NHL isnt the wild wild west it was in the 70s anymore, where players would sharpen the top the their blade so they could slice with it.

It really is a load of difference skating on international ice and nhl size ice. After skating on int. ice when you go back to nhl ice it seems really small.

I've never played a organized hockey game yet on nhl ice, but i have on int. ice.

international ice throws off my angles. the larger crease, the larger neutral zone. i feel lost and disconnected from the play. there was so much more side to side passing, where as on NHL ice, i feel everyone jams up in front of me and its alot more broken plays and rebounds and stuff. thats what i like.

that being said, ive never given up more then two goals in a game on international ice. never lost either.

One comment mentioned the Dipietro deal, way different circumstances with that, DiPi was 25 or 24 when he signed that deal, not 27 and it will only last until he is 40 not 44.

Can the NHL just make a decision? I'm getting sick of this pissing contest between the league and the P.A.
