1. Myers
2. Montador
3. Rivet
4. Leopold
5. Morrisonn
6. Sekera
7. Weber
8. Butler
What if Myers has a slump?
What if Rivet is injured for most of the season?
What if Sekera and Butler play like last season?
What if Weber doesn't play good enough?
Plus, I really don't think that Leopold and Morrisonn are better than Tallinder and Lydman. I think Tallinder and Lydman have a little bit more upside than Leopold and Morrisonn.

What if the entire defense freight trains a hooker, catches gonorrhea, and is out for 6-8 weeks on a penicillin regiment?

Tough to deal in what if's. Things are going to happen during a season, and the team has to adapt.

Every team has injuries throughout the season, and there is always at least a player or two that performs less than his best. Worrying over it causes more problems than the reality does IMO, when it comes to being a fan/following a team.

I think we improved, and I like how our D looked last year anyway. I love the Morrisonn pick-up....and the Leopold pick-up is alright.
Myers, if he goes into a slump (which I don't think he will) will easily get out of it in my opinion. At times last season when he made a mistake, he was right back out there next shift pinching and rushing with the puck. The rookies can only get better, and will be motivated to make the roster full-time.
The only thing I really want on D is a veteran Dman not named Craig Rivet. I know everyone else wants a powerplay QB, but I would really want a guy like Scott Niedermayer (obviously we can't). We lost our veteran D-man in Teppo.

Is it bad that I really dont even like Rivet?

With defensive changes, I hope we see better D. It's offense IDK about. We can't keep people healthy when it matters and thats our downfall.

I didn't like Rivet that much, but I'm really starting to grow on him. It's his 3.5m salary that I don't like...

Leopold and Morrison are cheaper and younger, and better versions of Lydman and Tallinder.

Both had better stats abd kess giveaways then both of those players.

Your logic is a little off for one key reason.

It as just as unlikely for a majority of worst case scenarios to befall our defense as it is a majority of best case scenarios. Fans often forget this. Most of what you posted, in itself, will not kill us, even if a couple of those things happen.

Anything can be what if in a positive and negative way. Just watch then evaluate. I personally like out defense on paper right now.. Just have to wait till the season starts

I honestly don't have any issues with our D this season. They'll be fine. Also, I think they've made some improvements on the blue line with Morrisson/Leopold. I'm actually really looking forward to seeing Morrisonn this year! If need be, I'm sure we can haul a few up from Portland and if that isn't an option, well, there is that $7Mil (Give or take) that we're sitting on. I'm sure if push comes to shove, Quinn will have to allow Darcy to spend some of it to bring someone in.

I'm not worried. That may change depending on how the season starts/goes/ends, obviously but you have to be prepared for anything. As what many have said, they could all either put up retarded numbers, or all of them shit the bed. We won't know until the puck drops on the season.

You're scared with this defense? I'm excited with it! We got better (on paper), and if these guys gel, expect another career year for Miller.

This time last year, you wouldn't even think about posting this. Hank did have a good year, but along with your what if's, what if he played extra well in his contract year and he would return to being the same old garbage player? Leopold is a fantastic skater and him and Morrisonn will atleast scrap it up, unlike Hank or Toni.

Morrisonn and Leopold are better than Lydman and Tallinder. They have far fewer giveaways and are younger. Personally, I think it would be best if Morrisonn and Myers played together. It's already been brought up that Morrisonn was on Washington's top pairing with Mike Green, who isn't exactly great at that whole "defense" thing, so the man knows how to shut it down just about single handedlly. I think at this point I'm just going to repeat most others. Myers is too good to slump, Rivet is expected to be ready, etc., etc.
No one is totally sure what's going to happen, but I think our defense is better than last year, and that we will do better overall (including playoffs) this season.

This is why our defense is better than last year's.

Myers: A year older, a year wiser, a year of dominating the NHL's rookie class.
Rivet: Healthy again, and that means he's gonna be good and mean again.
Leopold: Upgrade over Tallinder, with less giveaways and more youth.
Morrisonn: See above, only replace Tallinder with Lydman.
Montador: Fit surprisingly well in the Sabres' system. Just has too take care of his skate blades better.
Sekera: Contract year. Nuff said.
Butler: See above.
Weber: He's healthy again and he's gonna want that NHL job dammit.
