Unions continually fuck the "general population", just with different size and shape instruments in different orifices.

I've heard the unions screwed over teachers in NY big time too. I guess it's a good thing that Florida is a Right-To-Work state. We have a teachers organization that functions as a union, but it really isn't a union and doesn't have much power.

So it's ok in your book that an ever increasing amount of our overall education expenditures go towards servicing pension funds and not to actually educating kids.
All at a time when our education outcomes are getting worse and worse and schools are cutting arts music and sports programs.

We pay more, kids get less.

Go Unions!

And seriously...save for retirement like everyone else. Save money in IRA's and 401k's...a pension is NOT NECESSARY.

Why should the public sector be the only ones getting pensions?
Why should those pensions be kept propped up with tax dollars instead of standing on their own?

And don't pull that "teachers are special" crap on me. My Mother was a 2nd grade teacher, my father was a college professor, my grandmother was a high school teacher, my grandfather was a high school principal and my sister is a speech pathologist who works for a school district.

oh, my parents saved and invested for retirement. but, when that recession hit, it hit HARD.

to me, and im biased, but teaching is right up there with being a cop or firefighter. its an extremely noble job, IMO. teachers should make more. thats just how i see it.

Go ahead, pay teachers more. Give them a 401K option. Cut the union BS. Same with the UAW.

I'm with you.
I'm just of the opinion teachers should be paid much more but in a performance based way.
Like the rest of society.
Tenure needs to go and the balance of their total compensation packages needs to swing out of pensions and into paychecks.

Pensions for public employees (and mandatory raises) are becoming an increasingly difficult pill to swallow when they're being funded by citizens working 2 jobs and moving out of a foreclosed home.

Bask in the grotesque:

Worked 9 years as a garbage collector.
Murdered 10 women while out on disability.
Collected pension payments for 19 years so far and the $1700 checks will continue until he dies (at the hand of the state or otherwise) and there's nothing anyone can do about it because it's in a Union contract.
