It was also founded that there should be a separation between church and state. Yet they force students to say the pledge of allegiance in school and tell the church they have to allow gay marriage. I support gay marriage but hate that they make you say the pledge of allegiance in schools. Can't win either way.

SATW; my post was sarcasm. The US was NOT founded upon the Christian religion, in any way. George Washington made that VERY clear in the Treaty of Tripoli.

We just had to stand for it in HS. Meh, not worth the effort to resist.

I know, but you brought up a good point on religion and government.

I have no problem with the Pledge of Allegiance, but the "under God" needs to go. ASAP.

Honestly, I think that's the only thing people don't agree on.

There's polytheists, monotheists, athiests, in this country. Which all are invited to be a part of this country, no matter the religion, race, color, etc... yet the government makes them say "under god" (i purposely don't capitalize it, sorry if it offends those who are believers), when its against their faith.

Glenn Beck needs to jump off a small cliff with jagged rocks below.

The separation of church and state really only means that the government cannot promote one religion or persecute another.

That's the only thing that really gets me going about people who say our country should be run on 'Christian values'. What about Buddhist values? Pagan? Islam? According to our Constitution all religions should be respected, not just the one the majority believes in.

Tom, isn't by saying "god bless America" like presidents do, more preaching religion from a government position, than it is exercising their religion.

At B&Y: I'm not bashing Christianity, so stop your pansy bitching and grow thicker skin.

"Under God" has to go because it is, as one 9th Circuit judge ruled, 'an unconstitutional endorsement of monotheistic religion'.

At Tom: By editing the Pledge during the Red Scare, the government knowingly began promoting a religion - Christianity - thinking it would help people stay away from godless Communism. But I can guess you know this.

At SATW: I've never thought about that but that's a damn good point. Hmmm...

I personally don't have a problem with the 'under God' part. My personal belief is that there is a supreme being, call it God if you want, but no religion has it correct.

If a court considers it an endorsement of Christianity, I don't totally agree, but I can see their point.

It'll never get changed though. It would be Civil War round 2 if that ever went through.

I'm not saying I don't believe in freedom of religion. I'm not really okay with a Glenn Beck rally taking a detour to "Get rid of any trace of God in the Pledge of Allegiance". It's not necessary and a few members including myself have asked for people to really lay low on that sensitive topic. We didn't demand, we just simply asked. But I'm a pansy bitch for wanting that right? Because wanting people to respect my religion and in return I do the same to them is wrong, correct? I need to just take it and ask for more? I need to get over myself because Atheism is the right answer because you guys know for a fact. Nobody does. It's what you think. Some people don't understand that.

I've never once flat out said something bad about atheism. I don't think anyone has. But people say insulting things about Christianity. Even after we addressed the situation and how serious we take it.

Look, I'm not hating on you cuz you're a Christian. It's your gig. But we live in a country that has touted freedom of religion as one of the tenets the nation was FOUNDED ON. And when the Pledge of Allegiance has "under God" unconstitutionally added into the lyrics, I take umbrage with that because it infringes upon millions of Americans' freedom of religion because it promotes a very specific monotheistic religion.
