Man, It is going to be so strange not seeing Hank and Loods out there at some point. I fluctuated with my liking of hank, but pretty much always loved loods. I wish them luck with whoeverthehell they're playing with now.

everything i've read is projecting well for leopold here in buffalo. i won't believe it till i see it.

As for the Morrisonn pick up. he will be a nice compliment to myers. i like that move.

As for Rivet. Darcy could have signed orpik (only making .25 more i believe) but he traded for Rivet. he's in a contract year so that 3.5 will likely be lowered as rivet is up there in age and who knows maybe he won't be re-signed (unlikely as he is the captain but why not).

As for kaberle. he has his upside as the puck moving d-man, but he can be a defensive liability. many are saying he will have to improve upon that if he expects to make 6.0mill a season.

Here's hoping the younglings pan out.

Kaberle? You mean Myers?

Here comes the homerism in me, but Myers has a ton of defensive upside...maybe moreso than his offensive upside, which is considerable in its own right. He's already fast and plays the stick, but he's shown a commitment to getting bigger and playing the body more as well. This will bode well as he transforms into a zone-defending monster.

I love our defense. On paper, at least. This offseason didn't have much improvement for our forward core, but man our defense got much better.

Morrisonn and Leopold are better than Lydman and Tallinder. They have far fewer giveaways and are younger. Personally, I think it would be best if Morrisonn and Myers played together. It's already been brought up that Morrisonn was on Washington's top pairing with Mike Green, who isn't exactly great at that whole "defense" thing, so the man knows how to shut it down just about single handedlly. I think at this point I'm just going to repeat most others. Myers is too good to slump, Rivet is expected to be ready, etc., etc.
No one is totally sure what's going to happen, but I think our defense is better than last year, and that we will do better overall (including playoffs) this season.

You know, for some odd reason I always get fucking persuaded by you. I. Hate. You. -_-

Haha, I had no idea I had that effect on people.

no i meant kaberle. say if they signed him as a free agent, and not resign rivet sorry to be vague.

I kind of didn't bother to talk about myers. I think if he falls in a slump he'll bounce out. As well I think he may come out the door swinging and be gunning for the next trophy in the d-man's repertoire, the Norris, much like doughty seems to be doing.

Kaberle is not moving. Why is he still in talk?

Honestly, I bet Myers will be just like Chara, knows when to shoot or pass and picks up points because he is that good with the puck and has the ability to make the puck go through traffic.

And we all know how Chara is on defense. Hard to beat and you aren't going through or anywhere near him in a 6 foot radius.

I really don't see Myers being ANYTHING like Chara ever. I really don't have anybody to compare Myers to. He's probally the only Defenseman in the league that can rush the puck so effectively and still get back and play amazing defense. I wouldn't care if he never developed a mean streak. He's a huge asset to any team even at such an early stage in his career.

He's a bigger Niedermayer without the beard, or a more skilled Pronger without the rabies. Those are the only two comparisons I can make.

I was only using Chara for his ability to play both ends of the ice, he doesn't need a mean streak to win a Norris trophy, Lidstrom anyone?

Haha muchos gracias, and frankly I'd be happy with either of those comparisons. But as we saw toward the end of the last season, Myers was beginning to find his snarl. Good things are on the horizon, good things.

the thing about myers is he wasnt born mean, like scott stevens or chris pronger. now, hes gonna get more mean, but hes never going to be THAT kinda mean. toeing the line every game occasionally crossing it.

i really think hes gonna be more like scott neidermeyer or a poor mans lidstrom. not really a physical d-man, but great positionally and good with stick work, who is well adapted to the offensive zone.

I was going to say Niedermayer, but I really couldn't picture Niedermayer flying in rushing the puck across the blue line and going deep into the zone. I guess he's one of a kind. Or a less offense, more defense Mike Green.

Myers is mean, but he's awkward. It takes some time to adjust his body to the level of play, but once he's comfortable he'll start blowing guys up. At least, that's how his WHL career went. I'm hoping for a similar learning curve during his NHL career.
