The last game I went to was against the Senators. If you're going to go to a rivalry game, make it against the Sens. I sat next to some fans with a section of them right in front of me, and they really could not have been more decent. I HATE that team with a passion, but honestly I've never heard anything bad about their fans as a whole, only a few bad apples here and there, and they pretty much stay in Ottawa. As a whole, I think they're my favorite fans in the NHL, disregarding the bias I have for Sabres fans because of course we are the best.

But, yeah. I'm never going to a game against the Leafs or Habs because Leafs fans as an entity do not have the greatest reputation in the world, and I would too scared that the Sabres would lose to Montreal, and their fans get reeeeaaaally obnoxious when they're winning. I would just get annoyed too much lol.

Words of advice when you are at games that involve rivals don't stand up an applaud home team getting drubbed 9-1 when they finally score and you are cheering for the road team, I did that in Guelph and Windsor and people threw programs at me but hey you diss the road team you get what you pay for. :D

They can "say" the same - But, having lived in both cities for extensive periods of time, I'd say Hamilton has slid pretty far on the "decency" scale.

Perhaps 20 years ago, when the rust-belt was still intact, the illusion of parity or equivalence may have been supported - But, since then Hamilton has become (with the exception of the affluent breadwinners, who actually earn a living elsewhere in Southern Ontario, and only exploit Hamilton's depressed land-values, as a dormitory community) a pure and proper cesspool.

Populated with an aggregate of welfare cases and opportunistic, but somewhat xenophobic (stone-aged culture) immigrants.

Seriously. It pains me to visit what were once "safe" neighborhoods, only to find them riddled with urban-blight and the zoology of a National Geographic sense of "third-worldness".

Asian gangs (wearing "break-dancing" gear) and kids born with cleft-palates, with their eyes on the sides of their heads.

Gone are the "proper" ethnic neighborhoods, with their sense of community and their need to embrace the North American ideal...The rugged working-class.

It's really like The Jerry Springer Show meets Dog, The Bounty Hunter, with a goodly dose of The Deer Hunter and Clerks, added in.

Never mind. Don't visit Hamilton, unless you're ready to slit your own wrists and are looking for a reason to loathe humanity, shed all hope, and find your final resting-place.

It's become a pot-hole ridden, dollar-store-on-every-corner, shit-hole - Think: Akron, Ohio...but, worse. Much worse.

This is one of the reasons I don't like to attend the really high rivalry games. Like fly said, I've seen it escalate to harassment, but also violence. There's a lot of belligerence, and it's gotten to the point where I don't even like attending those kinds of games because of all the fights that break out. They're fun to watch for sure, but some people just take it too far and invade the city for all the wrong reasons, which just takes a lot of the fun away from the sports aspect of it. Or maybe my estrogen is just showing.

well, girls shouldnt feel too intimated to go to a sporting event. ever.

when the said incident happened, i was 16. asshole saw i was on crutches too. still punched me. from behind. my dad was PISSED.

why do you always seem to be in the midst of trouble?

Sounds like how people in Akron and Cleveland talk about Buffalo! I know from all the time I spent partying at Kent State - my sister went to college there - and going to college myself at Baldwin-Wallace in Berea, OH. I suspect they are not as different from us as one may think.

The people of Cleveland feel a sense of commonality with Buffalo, actually; or at least most of the people I knew in my five years there did. They identify with another of their rust belt downtrodden breathren.

They believed we got a lot more snow than they do, though - which is not always the case. I left Cleveland in the early nineties, and the last year I was there, they got more snow than we did. I loved teasing them about that...

But as ETC says; they don't all feel that way. I know from being at two Browns - Bills games in Cleveland that they all don't.

A lot of ignorance exists. I was pumping gas in Cleveland one time, and the attendent, seeing my NY plates, asked me where in New York I was from. When I told him Buffalo; he said "then you prolly knows my cousin then; cuz he lives in Brooklyn." Yeah, I prolly do, I replied....

Clevelanders think Buffalo is somewhere near Newfoundland, and are stunned to hear it's only 3 hours away. I sensed no rustbelt kinship because they got their shit together while Buffalo is still stuck in the 70's.
