If you are thinking Dallas they only had such a good fan base cuz they had such a great team for years. Now thats not true anymore, fans will dwindle, count on it.

True in every area, normally if you got a good team people will come, if your team sucks, they normally won't sell out.

Buffalo was selling 13,000 or less seats when they filed for bankruptcy, Pittsburgh wasn't selling seats before Crosby arrived.

The only exception to that is Toronto, they sell out all the time regardless of the product on the ice.

And lets be honest about Toronto. They are definitely the most popular team in Toronto, over the Jays and the Bombers? I believe that is the CFL team? Either way lets be honest Hockey is more fun in Canada than baseball and football. So with a team like Toronto... people are always going to go to the games. So why should they try to get better if they are selling out?

Are you being serious? If they weren't serious about trying to imporve their team, Burke would not be their GM right now. JFJ still would be the GM.

toronto could have two teams, and sell out every game, both teams. ive been to alot of sabres games, talked to people who say, oh, were leafs fans, but we couldnt get tickets, so we came here instead.

i mean, imagine if hamilton got that team. holy triangle of hatred and rivalry!

Actually that's not really accurate. Pittsburgh's only awful year was the one in which the team's future was in question. Likewise for Buffalo.

Pittsburgh
1995 - 14th (out of 26)
1996 - 11th (26)
1997 - 10th (26)
1998 - 16th (26)
1999 - 19th (27)
2000 - 17th (28)
2001 - 11th
2002 - 16th
2003 - 16th
2004 - 28th

Buffalo
1995 - 18th (out of 26)
1996 - 18th (26)
1997 - 16th (26)
1998 - 19th (26)
1999 - 8th (27)
2000 - 10th (28)
2001 - 12th
2002 - 17th
2003 - 20th
2004 - 23th

no, thats true...

but its especially bad in carolina. florida is a model franchise compared to the hurricanes.

Are you just being ignorant or something? Florida is far from a model franchise anywhere in the league.

I don't see the Canes tarping their seats, or even Dallas, or even Tampa. Atlanta hasn't tarped any of their seats.

i was being sarcastic. but i hate the canes because karmonos is a douche bag. first he moves the whalers prematurely (a year before their lease ended) while the connecticut government was trying to work out a deal AFTER they already had a deal in place, and karmonos decided to retract it. THEN he tries to move the team to metro detroit, that gets voted down, then he says "fuck it" and moves em to the carolinas. why on earth would the owners vote down a second team in detroit to move to carolina? what the fuck?

Carolina played here in Greensboro their first 2 years. The Greensboro Coliseum, believe it or not, could get 21,000 for a hockey game, even back then in 98-99. Couple that with the fact that Greensboro has far fewer hockey fans/northern translplants than Raleigh, and you end up with an empty looking arena. They had almost the entire upper deck blocked off. There was some kind of rule (at least back then) that said every arena had to sell X percent of seats. The Canes in Greensboro had to block off tons of seats just to stay within that X percentage.

But...you are all missing the point of the Panthers "more intimate setting" campaign. The intimacy is not in the uncovered seats, but rather under the tarps (wink, wink, nudge, nudge)! It's brilliant!

They have seats tarped off still at Tropicana Field that were put on when the Rays sucked, and they still have trouble selling baseball tickets even though the Rays are now one of the best teams in MLB. It's been the big 'issue' (fans not going to the games) here in the Bay area.

I think it's just Florida fans that suck in general.

actually, thats not a bad idea. sneak under the tarp from the steps, and you are pretty much covered.

the problem with the rays as well, tvan, is the trop SUCKS. if they build a new ballpark, and they will, itll be alot better.

I've been on Tropicana field. We had a BOA Regional Band competition there.

I believe the Lightning still hold the NHL indoor attendance record with like 27,000 or something.

You could argue that for any above average successful team, look at Boston a few years ago.

Fair-weather fans are dominate in any sport, they only care when the team wins and don't care when the team is doing terrible.
