How many black actresses are there that are household names besides Halle Berry? I can think of maybe one and thats Zoe Saldana
There's definitely a lack of black actresses (or any women who aren't white) in Hollywood that are household names, but this poll also has singers and athletes as categories and I can think of a few women of color who could've made the list. Plus, several of the women on this poll are people who I wouldn't consider "household names"...I had to look a few of them up because I didn't recognize their names.
Sorry, I didn't mean for my statement to be taken as some sort of social commentary or to insinuate that you were discriminating or anything... Obviously the lack of women of color on this list stems from Hollywood not having many women of color period, which is a whole other issue in and of itself.
I tried to keep them fairly recognizable, if not in name, then in appearance. For example, no one knows who Biba Golic is, but when everyone sees a picture, they go, oh the hot ping pong chick whose picture has been on the internet since forever.
It was tougher with the athletes, because so few female athletes are household names because of their athletic prowess. I tried to pick athletes that were not only attractive, but also major contributors to their sport, which is why Anna Kournikova is not on the list.
The lack of minorites in the mainstream is a tough thing, but I tried to keep the list fairly diverse with several Hispanic women (Hayek, Cruz, Shakira, Aguilera), Middle Eastern (Chriqui, Portman), Far Eastern/Russian/Islander (Kunis, Dushku, M.I.A., Kai, Katina, Volkova, Golic, Cohen, Sharapova), and even the seventh circle of hell (Fox).
