Yes. He started out as a defenseman in the WHL, then got converted to wing, then got switched back to defense as a Blackhawks prospect, then played wing in Rockford, then got brought up as an injury-relief player as a defenseman, then got switched to forward for the last two seasons (with a brief stint as a d-man in this year's playoffs), and now he's starting as defense on the Thrashers. Holy fuck.

I'm not saying this guy is great, but people are awful hard on a guy who almost got himself a playoff MVP award. Sheesh.

I'd leave him at forward for sure. It's quite possible he discovered HIS game, and can be effective.

But he didn't show up in the regular season on a loaded Chicago team.

he sure as hell did show up, IMO. with all that talent, someones going to produce below his potential. hes a scoring 3rd line winger. hes gritty as shit, and can put up 35-40 points a season. im hoping thats what kassian will be with a little more scoring punch.

No thank you, the guy hasn't even managed a 20 goal season and he's poised to get 4+ million next contract?! I don't get it, his intangibles are high because of the traffic but isn't that Vanek's role?

Yeah, this. I'm waiting for him to bomb with that contract.

Hey, if the guy puts up 34 points a season that's horrible considering he's supposed to be a big named player. Yeah, he showed up in the playoffs with 16 points. Still. The guy is grossly overrated right now. 4 mill for him? No. No. Please no.

Exactly this, but you can't fault the guy for taking what he was offered.

Or will be offered.

Exactly. It's not his fault he's making that - blame Dale Tallon for offering it to him.

He's making $3M, and not worth those dollars up front or in back.

He did well by getting a contract off that playoff performance. Not the first time or the last time that will happen.

It's definitely a gamble, but I like the notion of gambling over remaining stale. They guy does bring a lot of toughness to a roster, and that should be noted, too; and before we hate on this contract too bad, the Sabres signed Petey to a 2 year(albeit less money) contract. Petey would have to be on that Cheech and Chong alien weed to ever match that playoff performance.

I don't disagree, I just think that $3m is a good amount to pay for a gamble in the salary cap era.
