hes capable of 50 if the stars align, and hes a 40 goal talent, no doubt. at all. but im gonna go with high 30s. and there is NOTHING wrong with a 30 goal scorer.

I'm so fucking sick of this he makes 7M bucks bullshit...He's by far and away our most skilled offensive player, and has NO genuine 1st line talent around him, and still puts up excellent numbers every year.

For fucks sake, who gives a shit how much he makes? He makes more than all of us combined in a year, sure, but for Christ sake you pay your stars what they are worth. Without Vanek this team would be much much much worse, and thats why he is our highest paid skill player.

If he played on any other first line in the league, with a few exceptions, he'd probably put up 50 a year, every year. Instead of bitching out how much he makes, maybe we should bitch about the lack of talent around him, because Roy and Stafford are 2nd line talent, playing first line minutes.

I look around at about 15-20 other teams in the NHL and I see good reason to be angry. The Sabres aren't one of those teams. Just be thankful that you're complaining about a guy who actually has world class talent and not the Drury's of the league.

50 is totally achievable for Vanek. Battling small injuries all year is worse than going through one injury during a season. However I think he'll end up with 40+ but I will not be shocked at all to see him hit 50.

Honestly, he isn't a Gaborik, but his highest goal total was only 42, Vanek had 43.

Vanek hit 40 goals twice, the same amount of times Gaborik has hit it. Yes Gaborik has had more injuries then Vanek and probably is a better natural goal scorer, but he's not far better then Vanek at all, and he makes 8 million dollars. Yes he has put up more points a year then Vanek and is a more complete player, but strictly scorer they are almost identical. Also Vanek is capable of putting up a PPG a year if the talent is around him, he's not nearly as speedy as Gaborik and that is a huge disadvantage too.

Vanek has a career average of .442 Goals a game.
Gaborik has a .451 Goals a game average for his career.
Eric Staal makes 8 million and only scores a .403 Goals a game so far.
Brad Richards makes 7.8 million but only has a .274 Goals a game average.
Scott Gomez has a .240 and makes 7.3 million also.
Evgeni Malkin only has a .463 Goals a game average too.

He isn't Crosby with a .493 or Ovechkin with a .679 goals a game average.

But you see my point. Vanek might not ever hit 50, but he is capable, and some of those other guys who make as much as Vanek, aren't as good of scorers as he has been in his career.

If Vanek had one legitimate line mate to feed him the puck better, he puts up 50 goals and over 40 year in and year out.
