Confirmation bias is beautiful.

Not to stereo type hear but why is when some one who is arrested for trying to execute a terrorist attack it is usually almost always Muslims? like last week a little town just out side of London, Ontario was trying to blow shit up and of course he is of Muslim background. http://www.stratfordbeaconherald.com/Ar ... ?e=2732778

It's 'sexy' in the media to report about Muslim terrorists. It feeds into the stereotype that all Muslims want to blow something up.

Christian extremists don't tend to get the same coverage, and it's fairly pathetic, but they are just as bad.

Also consider all the anti-abortion violence that occurs in this country.

No matter what religious persuasion one is, there's an extremist group that advocates violence. Unfortunately the majority of the media doesn't cover much of it.

I don't wish to side track the original discussion in this post, but to be quite frankly honest, the Native American population of that once inhabited all of what is now known as America suffered more terrorism by the American people and its government than Muslim Extremists have committed through out modern history.

I mean, reality is what it is, entire cultures were wiped from the face of the Earth at the hands of American citizens and its government, thats just a fact of history. So no one should be getting high and mighty on Muslim extremists if they're American.

And on that note, lets take a long look at the larger role the U.S., as well as Great Britian (the British Empire) has continued to play in the hostilities in the Middle East.
I think it fair to say that OIL, YES, OIL is the driving factor for our nations involvment in the region. And our own government surplanted the existing government in IRAN in a 1953 coup and installed a dictator that would cow-tip to our oil industries. These FACTS, YES FACTS are a good foundational level to start with that allows hate to fester in that nation.

Lets not forget we armed Saddam to fight Iran and he was as ruthless as most others we supported over the years in that region.

Lets look at our support of an oppressive Saudi regime where the common folk have no rights what-so-ever.

And the list goes on. By no means am advocating that 9/11 was justified, the taking of any innocent life can never, ever, be justified. But lets not sit here and pretend a government, which represents us the people, has not soiled its hands across administration after administration just to make ourselves feel better.

We are our government, we cast votes that put leaders into position, the policies that have helped conceive ill will toward America and its citizens are ours, the peoples, after all, we should all stand up and take responsibility for what has transpired.

As for Bin Laden and his anger at American Troops on Holy ground during the 1st Gulf War, its no more or less insanity to attack civilians, but as for the war itself, when global oil supplies were threatened, we responded. That doesn't make it right, or just.
The 2nd Gulf war, or Liberation of Iraq was a bold faced deception to the American People and should never have occured.
How many Muslims have died in this battle? Many more than 9/11.

As I stated in an earlier post, its time many of my fellow citizens take a long look in the mirror, the facts bare witness to history that is written, not some camp fire story that utilizes falsehoods and fear to promote itself. For what? So that we, as a nation, can hold our heads up high and feel righteous, as though we've done the right and honorable thing? Pure hogwash.

Which brings me back to the Mosque, it is their right as American Citizens to build it, there is no debate.
If we truly are a nation of laws, justice will prevail.

And finally, to keep in context my thoughts on not only who we are as people, as a culture, but to also attempt to show others how the failure to think objectionally on this particular subject as well as how it has the potential to set a very dangerous precedent should the rule of law not prevail, I give you a famous, yet very powerful quote which I would hope and pray gets all of my fellow citizens to think deeply and intellegently on the issue at hand. Remember who we are, don't be afraid to look back at who we were and what gave us the noble culture from the founders through the civil war and carried us to one nation that helped save the world from tyranny (the greatest generation) up to the current day.

“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”
It’s a classic quote of Edmund Burke (1729-1797).

Look inside yourselves, look beyond the pundits and the rhetoric that divides us. Dig deep, not only from our past, but from what each and everyone one of you know to be truthful and just. It is within us, both as individuals and collectively as a people to right the ship. Let us together, as a culture, make what once was great, great again.

Think about my fellow citizens, stop and really give it inward reflection. We, The People, Have The Power.

You make a good point, and I like your post, but I hate that quote. It's used too often as a justification for anti-government militants to arm themselves to the teeth in preparation for their crazy war.

Believe it or not CV, it is your sacred duty as a citizen to insure your government works correctly and within the realm of the law.
America wouldn't work as a Constitutional Republic if you don't do your sacred duty as a citizen. I sympathize a great deal with anti-government individuals and groups. For no matter how off the wall their individual cause that calls them to arms is, the truly sad thing is, they are correct in justifying a call to action.
