My take on Kassian...he's gonna get that shot in the preseason and unless he absolutely LIGHTS IT UP, he's not getting a deal and he's going back to Windsor. His hands (both scoring and punching) are there, and his drive is there, but his legs aren't there yet. They're close, but not there yet. And that's what is holding him back.
On Weber...he's healthy and he's driven and the Sabres are carrying 8 defensemen to start the season. He has his chance and he's going to take it. Two key things to think about - his call-up in 07/08, he was +12 in 16GP and broke two of Cory Stillman's ribs on a clean shoulder-to-chest hit. Now he's bigger, better, meaner, and more driven. Put that in your pipe and smoke it, Butler and Sekera.
His legs would be there if he wasn't senselessly suspended for twenty games last season.
I agree, the hit was a bit dirty, but TWENTY games?

Stafford in a "contract year". I'm so fucking sick of this term. How about, instead, we just start signing these bums to one year contracts.
I signed you up for a 3 year deal, and you only performed during the last one? Nice. Here's a one year tryout, to be followed by continuous one year tryouts. GFY.
That's how Mike Bossy rolled, he didn't want anymore than a one year deal. 50, bang. 50, bang. 50, bang.

20 games in not unreasonable for a flying elbow the the face. He's lucky he didn't get more. That suspension was absolutely fair and called for. It was not senseless at all.
His suspension was perfectly fair, those hits to the head need to be eliminated.
Like they are doing with this years rulebook.

As I said in the GDT, the call on Rivet was horseshit. The Bruins player was holding onto Rivet's stick like it was the last fucking raft on the Titanic.

Thank you! I feel like Sekera and Butler are essentially the same player and that one of them won't be here for long. With the amazing amount of quality, NHL projected defenseman in the system and their lackluster play last year I see either one or both of them getting the boot early barring some very noticeable change in play over last season, and in Sekera's case, the season before it too. I like Butler and all and think it might have just been a down year for him with Rivet's injuries and him still being relatively green. If I had to choose, I'd tell Sekera thanks for everything, but its time we go our "Separate Ways" (cue Journey's most awful/amazing/hilariously cheesy 80's video..........NOW!!!)
