heres how it reads. the teams in the red are the teams whose window to win is now. the further right you get, the window is closing. left, its opening. the teams to the right are the window are teams who cant win now, and are actually on the downswing. the further from from the "window" on the right, the better, as the downswing is ending. on the left of the window are the teams on the rise, with the sabres being one of those teams.

pretty neat i thought. feel free to critique it.

I get the magazine so I saw this a few days ago. It would have been a cool concept if they got someone that actually follows hockey to write it.

Not sure how you but the Blues ahead of the Sabres, or the Hurricanes as before their window instead of a season and a half after it.

Accuracy aside, I really really like this concept and ESPN the mag definitely deserves props for it.

Whoever did this must be a hockey genius, because it's obvious the Leafs have more upside than the Ducks seeing they have 3 young stud forwards and a promising goalie. No wait, that's not Toronto, that's the Ducks. Maybe he just got those 2 teams mixed up or something.

I think ESPN should stick to whoring out bowling reruns and masturbating to their sports news shows.

i think the ducks are going to be handcuffed by those 3 forwards and wont have much outside them.

Meh, Koivu, Blake and Selanne(maybe Lupul) should provide some secondary scoring. There's cap space to trade for a defensemen, too. Anyways, the point is they're looking to potentially be better than the Leafs. Meaning their current players and their young players are just plain better.

Yea Ducks are better than the Leafs and are in a better spot to rebuild as well. A top six of Ryan, Perry, Getzlaf, Koivu, Selanne, and Blake is a damn good top six, and Hiller is a strong goalie. The Ducks really have a serious issue at defense.

The Leafs have issues EVERYWHERE.

Well, I'm hoping Beleskey can find some consistency with Corey and Getz. If so, this team becomes scary real fast. Also hoping Sexton continues to play well, and that Lupul can finally return and play well. If they can make one good trade for a defensemen, I think they'll be ok down the road with Sbisa and Fowler, but as they say about the best laid plans...

The Leafs are basically equivalent to the post-crash Lynyrd Skynyrd band, and are probably, as we speak, in talks to waste their 1st rounder for some over-priced, over-rated defensemen.

I do agree and it is kind of hard to believe that to giving props to ESPN actually mentioning hockey. They are so football and basketball oriented anymore and its sickening

Wow ESPN has no clue about hockey. Halak is not on the Candiens anymore, so they won't be able to shut down Washington in the playoffs again.

How are the Senators so far away too? They were in the playoffs at 5th last year.

price is only 22. its not like they have some AHL scrub starting for them. and the sens are openly rebuilding. they wont make the playoffs this season.

I always rag on Price. I've said it before and will say it again, and I know you've said it and will say it again.

Price was rushed to start in the NHL way too early. Halak was 24 and had more experience, huge reason he was better in the playoffs. I think with more time, Price will be unbeatable, or very well an incredible goalie.

Guys like Selanne, Neidermayer, Pronger, and Koivu sign in ANA because they can trust the management to do what it takes. The Laffs management can only be trusted to fuck your shit up(ask Sundin). Bobby Ryan called Getz and Perry to ask if they wanted to hang here, and they said yes.; so he re-signed. If this years defense is poor, Murray will go out and get someone. He's not afraid of the phone. They also have all 3 studs locked up at only 5 mill. Oh ya, Good draft this year, too. I'll bet if the guy who drafted that chart read this thread, he'd get his eraser out. There's no question the Ducks have a better team and outlook than the Laffs.

edit: I'm going to compare Carlyle to Gailey in that they will snap and make a drastic change on a dime. Everyone, including the players, thought Anaheim was stuck with their shit defense from last year, minus Needs. Well, he purged 'em all, and is trying again, just like Chan. People around here(and journalists) aren't used to this type of knee-jerk stuff, but I, personally, love it.
