This is my take on watching the Sabres-Leafs game tonight in Toronto. I know it's only one game and you can't base everything off one game but this is what I seen tonight. You can agree or disagree but just what I took from the game tonight.
Dennis Persson- is a total bust, this guy will never make the sabres. Seemed like he got beat time and time again.
Mike Weber-I know it's only one game but if he continue's to play like he did tonight will be the odd man out.
Chris Butler- Had a mediocre game at best and looked like he did last year.
Zach Kassian- He had a so-so game. Nothing like he did in the first preseason game.
Drew Stafford-played well and had a goal and two assists. He must be motivated because it's his contract year.
Nathan Gerbe- Two goals tonight-one on a penalty shot. The guy will play in the NHL if not for us than for some team. That's for all you Gerbe haters!
Luke Adam- He didn't play bad but didn't play great. He needs at least one full season in Portland to hone his game.
Mark Mancari- Well if you watched him the last couple of seasons he looked the same. The guy passes the puck really well and has a hard shot only problem he has is his skating is sub-par and doesn't use his body enough.

Mancari - He sucks at the point. For the past two years he's been working the point on the powerplay and he hits the shin pads of the pker like 2 feet away everytime. A hard shot means shit if you can't get it on net or create space for yourself to let go that shot...

Yeah, we have Pominville for that.

Pominville can at least hit the glass behind the net sometimes.

Butler, Adam, and Persson looked like hell, imo. Kassian didn't make any mistakes that I noticed, and I'm perfectly okay with that. He played hard, made some really good plays (or with good intent; passes that were intended for a guy that maybe missed the pass, one coming from behind the net comes to mind), and he's got a good presence.

The other day when that shit about Butler doing better this season was on facebook I wrote that he sucked....to which I was told how much penis I like to put in my mouth. I don't know how they knew that, but the point is that I still think he sucks.

The coaches are using these games to judge and gauge players. Why can't we?

The coaches are analyzing these players off a lot more information than we are. They also aren't jumping to conclusions after seeing 60 minutes of hockey.

We can, but for what its worth I think you need to keep that in context. It is one game. It is pre-season. You have a mix of schmucks playing with pros so it is impossible to draw too much from anyone's performance....such as:

My main point is that it is just the preseason and it is what it is. No use getting too upset or excited by anything you see. Meh.

I know it's preseason and that's why I said up top that you can't gauge everything from just one game but Stafford is a regular and Gerbe will probably be fulltime this year as well. It was just my take on a few players after watching the game last night.

It is impossible to determine that Persson is a bust or that Adam needs a full season in Portland based on the performance of a single game. That's my only point.

We don't see what the coaches do in practice either and training camps.

I mean I believe fully Adam will be in Portland just like he most likely should be, Kassian will probably be given the rest of the preseason games and maybe a few NHL games before getting sent back.

Weber will probably be given his shot too, since we are carrying 8 defensemen this year? It's Butler, Sekera, or Weber.

My impression?

Leafs played their starting D and most starting forwards. The Sabres iced the Pirates and some regulars. The only thing unexpected about last night was that the Sabres hung four on the Leafs starting D.

So that means, the Leafs still really do suck.
