i dont agree with this on the basic principal of you always defend your friends.

at western, my room mate, best friend decided to act a MAJOR fool, and get in a fight with several guys. i had to jump in, even though he was clearly being a drunking douche bag. i jumped in and took my beating too. but thats what you do for friends. you get your friends back.

i believe sports are the same way.

Unless a teammate totally betrays a team in some way, you help that teammate any way you can, no matter if they "deserve what's coming" or not. If that were the case, Pronger wouldn't have been on three SC Finals teams (one winner, to boot.)

Of course, nobody's gonna screw with Pronger, to begin with... but still.

i dont know man. a team can only win as a cohesive unit. letting a team mate get his comeuppance is going to drive a wedge between yourself and the team. hockey just cant work like that. IMO.

side note to this, i find it awesome that mccarty and lemeuix are buds now and have each others complete respect. claude had 0 intent to injure, just stir the pot.
