Ellis has a TON of heart. If only he could have transferred some of that heart-juice over to the puck handling and scoring sections of his body.

I mean, is anyone actually surprised about this? Gerbe's earned his spot. Plus I'm sure he'll make it through waivers no problem

However, that list was funny for 2 reasons..

Backstrom gets waived by Philly today. Also,I did not know Doug Janik was still playing hockey. Although I always liked him in Rochester.

Yeah Matt Ellis.....

I understand that the guy has heart, and gives a good effort, but a grinder type player who doesn't fight? No fucking thanks to that.

I like Ellis too, but there just aren't enough roster spots for everyone...

Sabres Edge has a nice write up on which players may be the odd men out:

Well with Ellis waived, I think McCormick becomes the extra forward, who plays on nights where guys like Gerbe will get killed, or when Kaleta or Connolly injure themselves.

I don't see that happening. Lindy's comments regarding Gerbe only making the Sabres as a skill players says to me he's going back to Portland with how the top six has looked this preseason.
