When you hit someone from the blind side or behind, their head tends to flop around and slam into other things very hard. That's why they're dangerous. How hard the initial hit was is not relevant.

He may not have had intentions to hurt him, but it was a hard hit and it was an idiotic play by Hjalmarsson.

This hit was from behind, but wasn't an intent to injure

A hit from behind when a player is against the boards like that is DANGEROUS. If you do that on purpose, you're trying to hurt somebody.
