PSP, maybe since you're not from western NY you avoided catching Buffalo sports fan syndrome. Feeling bad about your team becomes a habit for them, and habits are hard to break.

Exactly. It's a complex.

the "all is lost" fans tend to appear most with teams that have been loosing for a while. Here in Chicago, as soon as the Cubs lose a couple games in a row most of their fans are saying "Blow the team up" "we're cursed" "the Cubs are going to suck again." this is probably magnified in Buffalo since they have both the Sabres and Bills which havent won anything in most of our lifetimes.

I can appreciate some of it stemming from a rabid, passionate fan base. I mean, look at the Leafs. They win 2 in a row, and fans are ready to take second mortgages to buy playoff tickets. They lose a close one in a shootout, they want to fire the coach, GM, and cut the defenseman who had a puck go into the net off his leg.

It just goes too damn far sometimes.

It's good to be pessimistic. Makes victory so much sweeter.

Ha! I should've known some people would take this post as a "the sky is falling" type of post. It's not. It is a simple and obvious observation that this team falls into a routine habit of playing too fancy and undisciplined. Of course other teams play this way from time to time, but the Sabres have a talented roster with a well established coach, and players that are not young and learning anymore. This stuff should NOT keep happening like a broken record...but it does. Tonight's game wasn't much different, except there was one less fall down behind the net giveaway goal and one less empty netter. Now THAT'S progress!

PSP...you can keep farting sunshine all you want, and I'll keep telling it how it is. Everyone here should know that I both criticize and defend this team, so don't categorize me as some ultra negative typical Buffalo native fan type. I've never liked the Bills and I left the area 13 years ago. So what if it's two/three games into the season? They don't count??? Either way, in the big scheme of things, it doesn't matter where they finish as long as they make the playoffs, are healthy, and are playing good hockey. Even still, these last two games show they haven't learned much, and there's no way to spin it.

'This team' has played 3 games together that matter.

BTW, I really hate that 'I'm just telling it like it is' line. It implies that your opinions are somehow more correct than anyone else's. Just a pete peeve of mine.

It's 3 games into the season. We don't really know anything about this team yet.

Yeah Squanto, I say that because I not trying to pretend that my post is any deep thought. It's obviously apparent that the last two games have been sloppy, and that this has been a trend in the past. This is not a new team that "We don't really know anything about this team yet." There's five new guys - the typical amount of player turnover.

Call it whatever you want, paint it any way, but that 2nd sentence can't be denied. It's the same team and the same lack of focus. Does that mean they can't get it together? No. Does that mean OMGZ they'll never win a Stanley Cup? No. Does it mean this particular main group of players hasn't dropped a bad habit? Yes. Does it mean that they might never be able to drop it at this stage of their veteran careers? Yes.

If you don't like how I word my post, please just get over it, because it doesn't mean my opinion means more. My post is really not based on opinion in the first place, just a few simple facts that any Sabres fan of any level of fandom can't deny.

I have a pet peeve about fans that see nothing but rainbows, so I contrasted that thought with the "telling it how it is" line. You see, we can go back and forth about how we form opinions and how we express them over and over, and waste a bunch of time and one liners in the process. Maybe instead we can just discuss the topic...maybe.

Yeah I'm getting tired of that too. It brings back haunting nightmares of the first goal Carolina scored in game seven, that I got to see in person. Looks like more night terrors tonight.

LOL...sassy cat is telling me I'm too sensitive... I just get tired of having to qualify every critical post with the 28 other things I like about the team to avoid being jumped on by the sunshine crowd or the "oh your just a negative poo-poo head" crowd.

You and I butt heads a lot about hockey 1980, but I agree with you on this one - the core of the team is where the habit starts, and they're locked up for a long time and don't seem to be ready to break that habit (except Roy, who is on fire).

We don't butt heads much. I never thought the Wiz or where Ennis plays (which apparently is going to be any line on any given night) amounted to much of a head butting.

Very well said!! I was getting pissed off watching this game tonight. Jump out to a 2-0 lead and then let off the gas. Vanek for being paid as much as he is needs to be better. He just doesn't look like he's got that extra jump in his legs. This guy should be working his tail off in the off season and during the season with the amount he's getting paid. I like Myers alot and I mean alot and this year he's been more physical but he's been having alot of issue's fighting the puck and doesn't seem like he's moving his feet as fast as he was last year. I know it's only been 3 games but he needs to be better. I just hope he doesn't have that dreaded sophmore slump. Anyone else notice this.
