Here's what is wrong with that:

The Mayan calender ended at "2012" because they died. Not because we all will die in 2012 or what ever date. They died.

Even that article doesn't get it right.

The Mayan calendar doesn't stop in 2012. The end of the current long count cycle ends in 2012. Then, a new long count cycle starts.

It's no different than how we go from December 31st to January 1st and just start a new year.

Can we just pretend the world is going to end? It's much more fun that way.

But yeah, what Squanto said...2012 was just the end of a calendar cycle, not the end of the world.

I remember my world civ teacher saying that the whole stigma with the Mayan calendar ending then was because of the 13th bakton (spelling way wrong, don't care to look it up ) was either beginning or ending and it was considered bad luck. Or something. It was like 3 years ago so I don't remember
