More than likely, some shitbag lawyer found the kid, and told him he could sue Rypien and get paid for what happened. It's like ambulance chasing, only with famous people. Not like that ever happens...

This is my guess.

I don't understand how a player can get suspended 6 games for grabbing and shaking a punk ass teenager, but somehow if a player takes a run at another player and boards them from behind causing a concussion they only get 2 games. Hmmm...

It's the same logic that dictates a hit from behind is worth the same number of games as a simulated blow job.

Well...a dirty hockey play is still a hockey play...assaulting a member of the general public is a whole different ball game.

Grabbing someone and shaking them for about 1.5 seconds because they were taunting you is considered assault? God, what happened to this country...

But didn't Avery have to go to anger management from that comment though?

Controversial "sloppy seconds" comment..

On December 5, the NHL fixed Avery's suspension at six games, retroactive to the December 2 game against the Flames.

Yep, he got the shelf for 6 games. He had agreed to attend anger management for his conduct after being warned by the league.

Keep in mind though, he did say he was sorry..

uh...yeah
Putting your unwanted hands on someone is assault.
Hell, spitting on someone is assault.

It's pretty cut and dry in that respect.

Well that's dumb. Sometimes people need a good asskicking to get their head out of their rear.

First off, it's hockey. You're ALLOWED to clap. That's all he was doing with his hands, anyways.

Second, it is assault. If someone grabbed you, shook you, and shoved you, would you just say "meh I don't care."

Scratch that, you probably would.

I'd be angry, but my next move wouldn't be to sue the pants off the guy or get him arrested. (Assuming he didn't cause me bodily harm or mental distress)

It's a dick move by the player, and it's good he got suspended. but wtf the NHL needs to get a distinct suspension method.

There certainly is a double standard, and it's a reminder that this is a business. Not run by morally sound business men, but men who want to make as much money as they can at the expense of whoever they can get away with.

Tragically for the owners, stunts like this are bad for PR so they have to pay extra attention to it. Bad PR=less money for owners. Crippled hockey player=not as bad for money.
