Everything I said about pulling the goalie to give yourself a chance.....

...forget it in this game.

Devils really should go home and get some sleep.

You said this in the GDT, I have been saying this the entire time about this game, being outplayed badly enough to not even try something is right.

I agree with your point in some games, like if it is close and no one team was really dominating.

IT'S STILL NOT STUPID TO TRY. IF YOU DO IT, YOU CANNOT BLAME THEM. IT'S CALLED TRYING, ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN. GIVING IT 110% A GAME ISN'T STUPID.

I said it would have been stupid to try in this game.

Other games go for it.

Can't you read?

I was making a joke.

But still, fact is, if you're down by FIVE goals, it's tough to come back, no matter who you are.

THREE goals? It's been done many times---even in the last 5 minutes. In the past couple seasons, we've seen the Sabres, the Lightning and some others I cannot remember now, give up a few in the remaining minutes (how quickly you forget).

If you're in a hole, it NEVER hurts to improve your scoring chance, no matter how small. I don't care how badly the Sharks were playing, since the game was already lost, but why not take a chance, what've you got to lose?

As far as the Devils/Sabres game, I would've done what Ruff himself has done in the past, PULL THE GOALIE halfway through a period (in this case, the 2nd) to try and score a quick one and get some momentum. Had the Devils done that when it became 4-0, they may have had a better shot at making a comeback.

I agree with this. I think you need to go all out. Worst case scenario, your team gains more familiarity and experience playing with an empty net.

In this game giving 110% isn't stupid either. It's called trying. The Hawks once came back from a 5-0 game and I saw it. They were getting beat and a few goals went in and the momentum was going. Pulling the goalie can have a great effect.

Did they pull the goalie when they were 5 goals back or 1?

Yea, maybe pull the goalie if you had the momentum in the last 5 minutes but they didn't.

You need to be pushing for it enough to pull the goalie, and they weren't, so it would have been for a wash.

I know coming back from 5 goals or even 3 is not impossible and has been done in this league. But if your team isn't showing they want it enough, what's the point?

If you want to keep arguing go ahead. In this game when the Sharks had no momentum why pull the goalie?

If you're pressing for a goal and hit a few posts already down by three pull the goalie then, but not when your team does not have the momentum.

Do you understand or do I need to draw a picture for you too?

No need to get rude and snotty, especially when your argument is so weak.

Yeah I fail to see how this is a contentious issue.

Losing 10-2 is no different than losing 5-2 in the standings.

There it is, AGAIN!

I just watched the Devils, trailing NYR 2-1 with about 1:50 left in the 3rd. They had the Blueshirts hemmed in their own end, and I'm yelling to my son "why don't they pull Brodeur, why don't they pull Brodeur?"

Guess what happens next?

The Rangers finally get the puck out, the Devils barely regain control---with Rangers now clogging the neutral zone....THEN they pull Brodeur.

Empty net goal.

Rangers win 3-1.

The lesson?

When there is under 2 minutes AND you have the leading team hemmed in, feel free to PULL YOUR GOALIE to add to the attack.

Do they not teach this stuff in coaches school?

Never mind
