What’s with the slug?
While the Buffalo Sabres have spent considerable time, effort and dollars promoting the team’s new, retro logo — a replica of its original crossed swords and bison emblem, the “slug” can still be found in HSBC Arena.
The blue and gold charging bison head, which many fans have called the “slug” since it was first introduced in the fall of 2006, is prominently seen, among other places, on the Jumbotron scoreboard at the center of the arena. The traditional Sabres emblem is also on the scoreboard as well as the center ice face-off circle.
When the Sabres reintroduced the retro logo earlier this fall, many assumed the “slug” would just go away. They were wrong.
When the season began and the “slug” was still seen on the scoreboard, it raised more than eyebrows.
“We never said the ‘slug’ was going to go away,” said Michael Gilbert, Sabres director of public relations. “It’s on the scoreboard and elsewhere in the arena.”
In other words, the “slug” is sticking around.

i don't think the slug is that bad of a logo when it doesn't look like a slug, like if you just take the head

I like how Mike Gilbert even refers to it as the slug.

Well slugs don't usually move very fast, so it's not too surprising they'd stick around.

If it's our third, I don't mind it too bad. The Slug did give us one good year where we won the Prez Trophy.

I'm thinking it would take too much time/money/effort to change the scoreboard. Plus didn't they say the current third is only for this season?

Yes, the current 3rd is a 40th anniversary special.

I'm ok with it as a 3rd and also a big fan of the shoulder logo from that era sweater. My Rivet slugs are still in the Sabres room and I still wear them from time to time. I think if they actually do plan on keeping it around, for the $ factor above all else, they may keep the logos and redesign the jersey itself just to turn a buck.
