I don't care if he has a .999 sv% he has not won a game this year in 5 attempts. 12 goals against in 5 games.

thats the most retarded argument ever. save percentage is really the only gauge you can use to measure a goaltender. goals against is simply a ratio of shots taken/save percentage. his goals against is the same as millers for what its worth. and no one is going to say miller sucks testicles.

wheres the finger of blame of rasks win less season thus far? the 18 guys in front of him, and no where else. dont be stupid.

He still hasn't won a game this year. And GAA needs to be used also, you can have a very high sv% and have a terrible GAA. It could depend on how many shots he faced, 3 goals on 50 shots is still a very high sv% but he still let in 3 goals.

GAA of 2.75 really wipes out his good SV%. Doesn't mean as much when he's stopping all those pucks when he's not stopping ones that help your team win.

and its a goaltenders fault how many chances he faces? no.

if you want to hold it against a goaltender for allowing 3 goals in 50 shots (a .940 save percentage, which over the course of a whole season would be an NHL record) against the goaltender, then it speaks volumes of your hockey knowledge, or lack there of.

No Mike, I've also watched 3 of his appearances. He hasn't looked good. He's let in goals at bad times. I'm not basing anything on stats alone.

You're trying to make it out that GAA is not important, it's just as important as SV% too. Those are the stats we need to judge him on, and he isn't keeping enough pucks out of his net to let the Bruins win, plain and simple.

A high sv% is good, but you need a low GAA also.

every single goaltender thats ever played the game lets in bad goals from time to time, and looks shaky. if you wanted to say "rask is winless in 5 games this year! thats not good" id say, damn right its not good. if you wanna say "rask is sucking balls despite having a save percentage that would put him well well over the league average (and into the upper echelon)" then i would have to say thats 110% absurd.

consider the mendoza line for save percentage .900 and average is .910-.915

in order for him to have an "acceptable" gaa of 2.50, his save percentage would be around .935. which, again would be near the league record. no one is going to keep up that pace over the course of a season while facing around 34 shots a game.

GAA is a glamour stat that is more indicative of team play more so then the goaltenders abilities. like RBIs in baseball. RBIs are the GAA, while save percentage is batting average with RISP.

I don't understand your comparison just because I have no idea about Baseball Mike.

Rask just isn't what he was last year, and that's fine, I didn't expect him to be what he was last year to this year. Thomas has looked good for them and that's what they pay him to do, be good. But I hope he doesn't keep it up, and He can't keep that up either.

A. its 5 games.
B. its a .923 save percentage. ya know what, for comparisons sake, lets compare that to ryan millers career stats. everyone says (including me) hes the best in the NHL. millers career save percentage is .914. his second best save percentage in 08-09 when he had a .918. hasek won a veznia with a .921 save percentage in 2000-2001. now that we have a few reference points, i dont think thats "sucking balls"

for the record, i didnt bring this argument to your front door, so.. just so were clear i didnt come back to be an asshole.

A defensive oriented team can easily inflate a goaltender's save %. A collapsing team (cough the old Devils) will keep things away from the slot and to the outside, allowing a goalie to rack up simple stops, increasing that number.

No one stat ever tells the whole story. Anywhere.

(And this was a discussion, not an argument.)

and a goalie facing 34 shots a game, and having a 2.75 GAA, with a .923 save percentage isnt getting the support of a defensive team. at least not so far in 5 games. ive always argued brodeur is overrated, and thought the devils defensive scheme inflated his numbers. that being said, brodeur has the same career save percentage as millers at .914. so, eventually, his true skill showed through. despite the devils defensive structure, his save percentage still isnt through the roof.
