To most of us fans its just another game on the sched. For me its about a years worth of bragging rights. This year's version of the Canucks is easily the best they've ever iced. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for us. We've played much better hockey of late and the Canucks are nearing the end of an east coast trip. Our boys had better come out hard and fast, and they CANNOT STOP. Vancouver had the most come from behind wins last year and play an aggressive style. All in all it should be a doozy.

Quote:
CANUCKS (10-4-2) at SABRES (6-9-3)

TV: SNET-P, MSG-Buffalo.

Last 10: Vancouver 8-1-1; Buffalo 4-4-2.

Season Series: This is the lone meeting between the teams. They haven't faced each other since Jan. 25, when Vancouver earned a 3-2 victory at Rogers Arena.

Big Story: The Canucks are rolling. They picked up their eighth win in their last 10 games on Saturday night, as Ryan Kesler scored twice in a 5-3 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Air Canada Centre. The win allowed the Canucks to increase their lead in the Northwest Division to five points.

"It was a little sloppy out there, but we worked hard," Kesler said. "We got the goals at the right time and found a way to win. That's the important thing. We found a way to win and that's what good teams do on the road."

Team Scope:

Canucks: Vancouver owed its goaltender a debt of gratitude after Saturday's win. Roberto Luongo made 16 saves in the third period to keep his team in the game, and it paid off when Mason Raymond beat Leafs goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere from the top of the circle with 6:24 remaining.

"Last year we came back in a lot of games," forward Daniel Sedin said. "We knew we could do it. We stuck with it and we came through."

Sabres: Buffalo became the last team in the NHL to win a home game this season when Thomas Vanek scored with a minute left in overtime as the Sabres earned a 3-2 victory against the Washington Capitals at HSBC Arena.

"It was nice to find our game the last three games on the road, and tonight was a big home win finally for us," Vanek said. "It was overdue."

Who's Hot: Henrik and Daniel Sedin lead the Canucks with 20 points apiece. Eighteen of Henrik's 20 points are assists, while Daniel has 11 goals. Meanwhile, Kesler has 12 points in his last 12 games. … Derek Roy has 19 points (8 goals, 11 assists) in 18 games for Buffalo.

Injury Report: Canucks forwards Guillaume Desbiens (broken hand) and Alexandre Bolduc (ankle) are out, as are defensemen Sami Salo (ACL) and Ryan Parent (groin). … Sabres forwards Nathan Gerbe (jaw) and Drew Stafford (upper body) are out, while defenseman Craig Rivet (flu) is questionable.

Stat Pack: Kesler has 11 multi-goal games in his career, but has yet to record a hat trick. … Buffalo is just 2-for-31 on the power play in its last eight games.

Puck Drop: "That's the sign of a great team. Even if we don't have our best, we're going to stick to the game plan and grind it out. That's what we did tonight." -- Canucks center Ryan Kesler after Saturday's win at Toronto

I'm worried about this game. The Sabres need to build on what Atlas Vanek did against WSH the other night. If they do, the Sabres are in 8th place and will be 4-0-1 in their last five. If they lose and lose badly, it'll just be more of the same.

We won't look great tonight... but Miller's game will be talked about and Luongo will lay a rare egg as the Sabres cruise to a 3-2 victory.

I do and don't hope Vanek plays tonight. He doesn't play, he's beside his wife and their beautiful newborn twins. He does, she pops tomorrow perhaps.

He'll be laying an egg on the bench then. Luongo isn't playing tonight.

Incorrect.

If the Sabres win tonight, the best they could do is 10th place.

I know some disregard games-in-hand, but it DOES matter. Boston currently has the 8th spot with 17 points, BUT they've only played 14 games (vs. Buffalo's 18). After tonight, if Boston loses and the Sabres win, Buffalo will still have played 4 more games than Boston, which is a potential 8 point swing for the Bruins---and of all teams in the league, they're more likely than most right now to bring most of those extra points home.

Atlanta (9th w/17 pts & 18 GP) will remain in 9th with a Buffalo win.

Holy cow.

What's the record for Sabres playing-against-backups-in-a-row? This will be number 4.

Are opposing teams taking the Sabres for granted at this point? Did they see the Washington game?

Keep those backups coming then.

I'm not sure that the games in hand thing really matters all that much with so many games left to go. They're in a hole, they have to win games. They know that. They need as many points as they can get, but a lot can change from now until the last month of the season.

Games in hand cuts both ways, and invoking it fails when you automatically assume that the team sitting on games is going to get all those points.

Sure, the Bruins have 4 games in hand on Buffalo, and are 2 points ahead. Then again, the Sabres are 4 points behind Pittsburgh, and neither team has games in the hole.

It's just too early to be worrying about that. Win your games, and everything shakes itself out. If you're in a position where another team's performance dictates what happens to you, you've already messed it up.

I agree, but we can definitely look back and say "well, we f*cked those up, and we NEED to be better", instead of other teams who can say "we had a bad stretch, we have games in hand, etc...".

I guess it depends on how you see the glass.

Jesus, of course Luongo isn't playing again. He never plays when they are in Buffalo and we never get to see Miller vs Luongo.

I don't know how this one is going to swing. The battle of the expansion twins; 40 years of bastardization comes down to tonight.

I have a feeling that if we take this one, it'll be either a very close one goal game/OT/Shootout. If we don't, the Canucks will shove their sticks in Buffalo’s arseholes and use them to clean the ice.

I hope for humanity’s sake that I'm wrong on both accounts and we just come out pounding the green out of these bastards.
