Of course 1 thing won't destroy your way of life.
It's a death of 1000 cuts.

Your rights are not eroded in one fell swoop.

They're taken away slowly, bit by bit, in small pieces.

Most of this would be a non-issue if someone could opt for a pat-down and not have hands jammed into their crotch.

Some reports have TSA agents sticking a finger inside your pants and going around your entire body.

OK, for all the backscatter and ball groping proponents: What crosses the line?

A DNA database?
Required background checks?
A special travelers license?

What is too much?

I see, but this thread's about adding see-through vision to airports, and overstepping personal rights. Not "death by 1000 cuts". I don't think scanners are going too far, but that guy is a bug douche for making such a big deal out of it..

It's about more than just the scanners. It's about how the TSA oversteps their boundaries.

I'm not denying the guy was kinda douchey about the 'don't touch my junk' think. However, once TSA refused to pass him through security, and sent him back out, they should have been done with him. They have no authority to threaten him with a civil action for then trying to leave the airport. He should not be subject to a security screening of any kind to leave the terminal on the non-secure side of the house.

Then that needs to be delt with on a case by case basis. If this is the case then that TSA agent needs to be arrested and charge with felony sexual assault.

That's the problem. The new pat down methods make this stuff standard procedure.

Exactly...don't want the scanner?
You have 2 choices: "Enhanced cup check" or GTFO.

I just love being treated like a criminal by default don't you?

Seriously though, I have nothing substantial to offer to this topic. I read XC's comment and OJ immediately came to mind

Why do you need to check the nuts? What kind of bomb is going to go beneath your balls?

It gets better....Decide to opt-out and don't want to be touched, decide just to go home instead?
No can do citizen...you're getting searched whether you want to fly or not and you can have a fine to go along with that too.

It's to prevent the terrorists from testing different airports for vulnerabilities...it's for your own safety citizen.

That is rape.

The rules are pretty clearly explained before you even enter the airport.

If someone has a problem with them, why bother going in?

Really?
Show me where it says if I step in the security line I cannot leave the airport without a search and/or a fine.

...and really, you're just going down the logic road that says "if you haven't done anything wrong then you don't have anything to worry about".

That's how tyrannical governments are usually empowered.

Clearly explained, eh?

http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/ ... _1049.shtm

- No mention of the backscatter machine.
- No mention of the option to opt out of the backscatter machine and receive a pat-down.
- Veiled reference that a pat down may include 'sensitive areas of the body'. (Nothing about the now-standard crotch shot and boob grab.)
- No mention that leaving the airport without completing a security inspection may result in fines and penalties.

EDIT: This is bizzaro world that Ed and I agree on something like this.

...and they're making the pat-down intentionally invasive to force people into the machines
