They could have pulled up a bit in the 3rd. Yes, their shots were down, but they were still going after it hard.

LaRose probably couldn't do anything about his goal in the 3rd, it came right to him for a tap in. But Staal pushed a 2 on 1 for his, and Rutuu cranked the shit out of his shot too.

I'm probably overreacting a bit, and I'll freely admit that. I just see a team that could have taken their foot off the gas a little bit once the outcome wasn't in doubt, but instead decided to get healthy on a team who's mins were far away from the rink that night.

Nah I agree with what your saying, and I didn't see the game so I don't know for sure, but I don't think Carolina was running it up. The only thing that bothers me is that it seems (from what you said) they were out to get Staal his hattrick late in the game, which is just weak.

Who cares, it was the Senators.

They are professionals and have to not let these things bother them, plus it was a good win for Carolina as they needed something like that. And I say it again, who cares, it was Ottawa, I love seeing them get destroyed like that, even with what happened today.

Are you fucking serious? "Not let these things bother them?" You're fucking nuts. Have someone close to you die, and go ahead and block it out right away and do your job. You won't be able to do it.

I guess Schoenfeld and the Sabres weren't professionals when Tim Horton died and they could barely play the game.

I guess my friend's company isn't professional because one of their coworkers died suddenly at 29 last week, and they're still not right.

You know what Ottawa's schedule was yesterday? Instead of flying to Raleigh on Tuesday, spending the night, having a pre-game skate, and playing the game, they went the service Wednesday, flew down, got off the plane, and played. They weren't winning that game no matter what.

Sometimes life comes first and hockey comes second.

I have had someone close to me die Squanto, so fuck off then.

And I know exactly what they did, did you forget I live here and heard all about how they didn't fly down until game day.

I feel terrible for the coach but not the team, it's hockey and you got to play regardless of what happens, it is hard to do but you still need to do it because life keeps moving on.

And Powerplayer, you fuck off too. As I said I feel terrible for the coach but not the team.

I know how hard it is to have someone close to you die, but how close was this 14 year old girl to the actual team besides being an assistant coaches daughter? Was she always there cheering the players and around them during practices?

Had it been a player or coach that's really close to the team, and I can understand when Tim Horton died as he was an actual team mate of those guys and how hard it would be to not see him on the ice anymore.

Ottawa wanted to win that game, and were probably trying to do so for her, but it didn't happen.

Go ahead and think of me differently for all I care. Life still moves on and you still have to do your job regardless of what happens. Death sucks, but you shouldn't be sad about them dying, always think of how much better they are off now up above.

I feel the same way. If Staal really needed his hat-trick that bad, then fine, he'll be a douche to me from now on. Years ago running up the score was frowned upon at ANY time. Hockey is one of the easiest sports to let off the gas on, and these fuckers showed ZERO class by not doing it. Some of the younger posters may not find it as offensive, but I remember when running up the score was douchey and unsportsmanlike.

You really don't get it, do you? You state you've had people close to you die. Well, so has everybody, but most understand the nuance of the point being made in this thread.

An assistant coach IS pretty close with a team, certainly as much as the head coach, sometimes more, depending on the players. When someone so close as the CHILD OF THAT COACH suddenly DIES, it creates an emotional black hole for all of the people close to the immediate family, in this case the girl's dad.

You have absolutely NO IDEA whether there was an ongoing saga with this girl and how much people close to the coach knew or didn't know of problems at home for this guy. It all ended in the worst case scenario. For a parent, losing a child, particularly under these circumstances, is quite literally a fate worse than the parent's own death.

You're attitude: Life goes on. Play hockey.

Really?

Yeah when I played HS baseball, no one knew the head coaches kids or family really at all but we would have been crushed had something happen to them because of the nature of the tragedy and the effect it would have had on our coach. Seeing someone, especially someone you trust and respect as an authority figure destroyed by such a tragedy is harrowing.

The Zednik incident was completely different. (I was at that game.) It was shocking and difficult, but Zednik survived and the PA announcer told the Arena that he was in stable condition. Everyone knew he was fine.

Totally don't blame the senators for being beyond able to function in a hockey environment on Wednesday. And if it had been us, and it had been Vanek's hattrick, I would have felt a little dirty.

Hockey is not just a team game. It's a way of life.

If you're good, you leave home in your early teens to play in a better program. Your coaches and your teammates are your family.

Some of these guys PLAYED with Richardson. I wouldn't be surprised if one of them was the godfather of his child. I can guarantee she was around the rink frequently. I can guarantee that players knew her personally. The Sabres have their kids at the arena all the time.

I know one of Richie Dunn's kids. (He played for the Sabres and Amerks for most of his career. Still lives in the area.) He used to report to me where I work, and works with my brother now. He used to tell stories all the time about being at the rink with his dad as much as he could be.

Hockey teams are families. Not just a collection of guys who happen to work together.

But still, you shouldn't feel bad, of course it's tough but she's in a better place right now and that is what should have been on their minds, about how great of a life she is going to have now.

That's how I think when someone dies, I believe there is something after life, you may not, but when someone dies from a suicide, her life must have been pretty shitty on Earth for her to do that. Now she's in no pain from anything anymore.

And Powerplayer, life still moves on from everything, the people who let everything build up and never see the good in anything are the ones who are nothing and won't ever be anything in life anymore.

You don't mourn over her death, you celebrate the life she lived. Don't like my ways of thinking about death, don't try and change them or talk to me about them, because that's how it is. Celebrate the life, not be sad in the death.

So basically, your points are:
The Sens shouldn't be sad that someone died because they're (supposedly) in a better place.
Hey, her life must have sucked and she doesn't have to deal with that nonsense anymore...good for her!
To reiterate, the Sens shouldn't be sad because I'm not and people should think like Skyline.

I drank a lot. And then I made my sister drink a lot. And she performed a lobotomy on a monkey. Then the monkey drank a lot and performed a lobotomy on me. So I think I kind of might be in a state where I can understand what you're trying to say. But you picked a really retarded way to say it, a way that is extremely insensitive, extremely offensive, and extremely condescending all at once. Honestly I don't know if I should be horrified, angry, or impressed.

So Staal was going for a hat-trick while up by 5+ in the 3rd? Hell I would be too. I might feel a bit dirty about doing it to a team that just came from a funeral, but I can't fault him for stat padding. That might make me a jackass, but they showed up. I'm glad the team went to the funeral and paid their respects, but their performance suffered and they got stomped. Not their fault, and like I said it's hard to fault Carolina for putting on a show.

I hope the sens play better (except against us) and I wish all the best for the coach, and team. I think that this was blown a bit out of porportion, (sp :( ) and all the emotions swirling around this is starting to get to us as well. Bottom line, we all wish the coach the best, and I agree this should be locked now before things get really ugly.

Nobody is trying to change your opinions about death and mourning. We are trying to get you to understand that some people don't look at it like you do.

You're basically saying that the Senators should have been callous fucks and ignored the fact that one of their coaches and former teammates just lost his daughter in a traumatic way. That's bullshit.

And for the record, you have NO idea why she attempted suicide. The fact that you just jump to the conclusion that she had a shitty life is REALLY damn ignorant.

So Canes play good hockey and they're assholes. It's not their fault that the incident happened. How can they be assholes for playing HOCKEY? So they should just do nothing against the Sens?

It is a very sad thing and really the Sens have a great reason to play horribly but you can't blame the Canes for playing hockey...

Squanto, if she committed suicide something had to of been bothering her, it's really rare to find someone commit suicide if something isn't up with them or their life.

I believe in God, so that's why I see it like that, my pastor was the one who said to celebrate their life and not mourn in their death, and in all honesty, it's better to think that way because she is with the Lord now and not suffering or anything.

Call me ignorant all you want, because I'm sure the stats would back up the fact that if someone committed suicide, someone or something was happening in her life to make her do it.

Just lock it then, we'll never agree about this subject because it will get into religion and other aspects now.

I actually saw it never getting into a religious topic until now, because you pulled it out.

Well that was the basis of how I view it from the beginning, and anyone with half a brain could see my religion had everything to do with what I said even if I never specifically pointed it out until the last post.
