He's got the skill to bury him. Watch his highlights from College or Portland. He knows where to put the puck.

Where Gerbe has struggled thus far in the NHL is getting himself into those positions you need to be in to score in the NHL.

Now that he's starting to get there, the goals will follow.

college/ahl =/= nhl.

see denis hamel. they may come, but his trial period is rapidly coming to a close.

I knew you were going to say that.

But that's why I brought up the area of his game that was failing him at the NHL level... his positioning.

The kid can finish. He's got the shot and the eye to do so. He's just gotta get to the right spots and keep skating hard.

He's only played 14 games this season.

I'd put money on the fact that he'll be a scorer in this league. I'm that confident.

It's still early in his career anyways Mike.

We all know the minors is not the pro level and college guys tend to develop a bit later then ahl guys going into the nhl it seems.

Look at Vanek, he is really hitting his stride this season, even when he's not scoring points or goals he's making shit happen.

look. 2 goals, 9 points in 35 games... thats pretty brutal. if he was 20 or 21... not so much an issue. at 23, the learning curve is alot sharper. he just doesnt have IT so far, and its just kinda getting to the point where this experiment isnt working.

and vanek was an impact player his rookie year. i dont get that comparison.

I guess Vanek was an impact player his rookie year then and his sophomore season, but he's really hitting his stride now as a complete player it seems now.

im not saying gerbe blows. im not saying he isnt trying. im saying he simply isnt getting the job done. hes simply not burying his chances, and hes getting plenty. sometimes ya gotta call a spade a spade. its his third year pro, and his production isnt increasing much.

i just dont think he has it.

Give the kid a little more time to adjust, he is 5'5. I'm with PSP he will score at this level, just be patient. Gionta had 11 pts in his first 33 games. Now he's a pretty good offensive player, and solid defensively.
