Depends on how it's setup. Businesses that 'lose money' don't always actually lose money. They massage the books to create losses and reduce their tax burden.

The owner of my company runs it at a profit, but he also runs another business at a yearly books-only loss simply for tax reasons.

I have no doubt that the Sabres have made money under BTG, but did it as a book loss.

I thought Harwell was let go due to his on air criticisms of team management.

Mike would remember that better than I. I only remember reading about his contract not being renewed, don't recall the reasons for it.

bo schembechler wrote in his book he took full responsibility for that firing. he was on a year to year contract, a formality, to my knowledge. i guess bo said he wasnt coming back. it was a huge clusterfuck.

Are you seriously surprised at the reaction you got? We all know RJ is getting up there in years and a day when he isn't calling Sabres games is always coming closer. It's a sore spot and fans don't like to talk about it much and the get especially cranky when someone suggests that day is coming sooner rather than later. I honestly have no clue why you brought it up because if you're as smart as you claim to be, then you were well aware of the potential reaction beforehand. If you weren't aware of the potential reaction, then I'm just stunned. Either way it reminds me of ETC.

it was a point that a new ownership team will go to no end to bring in their own guys, and occasionally that has extended into the pressbox. no one suggested it would happen, so lighten up. some people immediately saw my point.

I saw it too and I'm fine with the comment, even though I think it has little, if any chance of coming to bear. Just saying that you really shouldn't be so surprised that some people didn't take to kindly to it.

Exactly.

And the guy is a Sabres fan... why would he completely dismantle one of the most solid coaching/GM tandems there is... this team under Darcy and Ruff have been extremely successful under 3 owners, bankruptcy, NHL owned, small market nonsense... Quinn has Darcy handcuffed... you strip Quinn of any power, even better if you can buy him out...

If he is a Sabres fan he will see the tradition, leadership, and hockey knowledge Darcy and Ruff bring... If I bought the Sabres, Id take the cuffs off Darcy and ask him point blank, what do we honestly need to do to have a cup in buffalo in the next 2 years... free agents, scouts, front office help, coaching help, etc...

NOW, here is my question. If Tommy G and Quinn impose their budgets because of profit issues... and new guy steps in and pays a bit more than Tommy paid for the team, how will he be able to spend more money on talent and the franchise and turn a profit, if Tommy is having a harder time turning a profit and the bargain price he got the team for?

Being a fan is one thing... running your business in the red is another....

well, its suggested lindy has lost the team. i like lindy alot, but when results arnt there... warm, fuzzy nostalgia wont get ya two points. darcy is darcy. been around a long time, built some great teams. but when the team is losing, its a reflection. shoot, these two may not be around to see an ownership change anyways.

but of course, who is going to replace these two? i often see fans who want these guys gone.. well, whose gonna replace them?

you can't replace them! and I don't think lindy has lost them, I just think some fat needs to be trimmed and some upgrades need to be made... and Quinn needs to uncuff Darcy and let him work... and yes losing is a reflection on Darcy but when Quinn cuts your nuts off how much can you really do... I think the bigger question is has Darcy learned from some of his over spending mistakes? Monte, Leopold, Morrision may suggest that he has... but I'll need to see what he does with a few guys moving forward to make that call...

i have no problem with people suggesting those two should be fired as long as they offer up a reasonable replacements. ya know?

"i think i should sell my car."
"how you gonna get to work?"
"oh, i hadnt thought of that."

i like lindy alot, and i like darcy. i think darcy could have done more, but hindsight its always 20/20.

Biggest pro of the team being sold to a new owner would be the possible firing of Larry Quinn. I'm no Darcy Regier apologist but I'm believe firmly that if Quinn weren't co-owner, Darcy would be able to do a lot more than he has been with Larry watching over his shoulder. Get Quinn ound see what happens.

I agree on the con being mismanaging the team - which would not be good right now with how the season has went.

I think starting with a clean slate will help out a lot. We haven't won a cup yet. So I don't see why not.

If you read my post I clearly stated who could we get to replace them also?

The only reasonable thing I thought of was promote Lindy to GM and get a head coach, and I couldn't think of anyone really to aim for.

I'm sorry, but to anyone freaking out about a possible change in coaching and management, relax. These excuses about Darcy's hands being tied, The players being at fault not Lindy etc etc blah blah, sounds awfully similar to a beaten house wife telling her sister that the only reason he hits her is because of all the overtime at the plant. Gimme a break. I love Lindy and would hate to see him go but how do we know the next coach won't be better? I mean when you dump a girl after a long relationship you have no idea if the girl that comes after her will be better or worse. Maybe she'll have better tits but suck at cooking, or maybe she'll nag a bit more but have no gag reflex. My whole point is that this Lindy attatchment stems more from being with him so long than what he has done for the team.

Darcy though can go eat a bag of dicks.

What about Patrick getting bumped to head coach and Ruff getting bumped to GM?

James Patrick, I think would be a good option.

I'd be up for that then. Or we could promote Dineen to the NHL from Portland.

I caught it, but i still like Darcy, I like what he has done through out the years and i think he gets more heat for some crap that is not his doing... this team has been successful. One of the more successful teams under Lindy and Darcy... with some questionable crap surrounding them... All Im saying is lets see what they can do with out some of the road blocks in front of them (Quinn) in a stable ownership environment with an owner interested in hockey.... Give them a chance to go after it... I do not think they have been given that shot... I don't think they have ever had an owner that simply said, go get it...

There would be a whole host of new excuses for them. I'm not saying that everything that has happened rests on Darcy and Lindy, far from it, but I for one would love a clean slate. A chance to leave everything from the no goal to the Drury/Briere shit behind. Not saying we'd have success, but I would welcome a change.

Id just be a bit more cautious. I know I have two of the best hockey guys in the league... I want to see what they can really do... I think of it like putting the Stig into a Zonda and telling him he cant use 4th or 5th gear... or sticking him into a Robin... you know he can drive, but has he really been given the chance to.... You know Darcy and Ruff know hockey, but have they really been given the Zonda and told to go get it...
