It's not that hard, probably 90% of NHL players can do it, they just don't because they're not confident, don't want to get bitched out by the coach, and because it's usually not the best idea anyways. How often have you seen connolly do it versus how often we've scored because of it?

shoes=/=skates though.

its not an overly difficult move. i cant do it in skates. then again, i dont try anything fancy on breakaways, i go backhand, and high. but i mean, in all fairness, its easy to do in shoes, probably alot harder on skates with defenders in your way.

Actually I find it to be easier on skates. You can glide. While walking/striding, you need to do it at the right time. It's also much easier on a smooth surface.

i dunno, i have a net in my driveway, and i often find myself using my feet to move the ball. i have awesome hands in my driveway, but once i throw on skates.. im useless unless im shooting. thats why im a goalie. (my fave move is putting the ball off my left foot, and kick it back to my forhand before flipping around putting the ball inbetween my feet for a backhander)

im not questioning your skill, i was actually pleasantly impressed with your hand/eye. i just feel with shoes, staying still, its easier.

I have a much easier time doing it on skates, and an easier time doing it on a smoother surface. It's a bit harder with a puck though. When I first started playing inline, it took me a bit to get used to the weight, feel and size of the puck. When the ground is clear I'll head out and do it in the road a few times (way smoother than my driveway). On an inline surface with a ball, I'm pretty sure I could hit a 90% success rate.

A guy in my inline league and I were talking about how different players grow up. His line of thinking was it depends on what you have around you. If you have a close friend or sibling who is a goalie then you tend to grow up to be a shooter because that's what you spend most of your time going. If you've got a close friend who is a skater, you tend to learn to dangle.

I didn't grow up playing hockey, but when I started goofing around, my sister was too afraid to play in net so I'm more used to dealing with a defenseman which is why I can puckhandle pretty well and can't shoot worth a damn. My sister always played on feet which makes it a lot easier to play defense on a narrow stretch like my driveway so I got pretty good at playing the puck through people's legs. I also got used to her constantly trying to stick check so I'm very hard to knock off the puck despite being small and inexperienced.

There ya go.

By "doing that move in my sleep" I meant that I dream about it. I tried to be more clever than just saying, "I can't do that move."

To address what CriminallyVulgar said ( I don't want to start a big ol' quote box) I find I'm much better at D and my shot. I started out as a goalie because me and my siblings started playing in our driveway when I was about 15. So I wanted to play goalie, got some equipment, and would play against my brother and sister. Then, they kind of drifted away from playing, so I had to make myself a player and had nothing better to do but practice my shot and hands. The former of which developed better. I would like to think I have a good shot, but my hands just are not there yet. I remember one floor hockey game I had recently where I played D and, not to toot my own horn, I was rock solid. I shut down 2-on-1's seemingly every other counter rush. And my outlet passes were almost always tape to tape. Then, towards the end, I snuck into the high slot and blasted a shot low stick side for a goal. I've always been a big shot blocker too, probably because I started as a goalie. So, I think one's playing style depends on how they started playing. I didn't think about until you brought it up, but it makes a lot of sense now that I think about it. I pull a good deke out of my ass once in a while, but I'm a big time shooter and not much of a dangler.

If Miller and Myers were playing like they did last year, we'd probably be over 500 right now.

If I had decided to jerk off instead, I probably wouldn't be paying child support...

My hands and shot aren't the best and I never really liked skating up and down the ice as much as a forward does, or going that deep into the corners when I started playing. I played a game or two on the wing and one game they needed me on defense. I'm a very good skater so it fits better. Another reason I felt better playing defense is my speed and agility is my biggest asset right now. I'm quick on my feet and it's hard to beat me even when you have a step on me. My hands and puckhandling skills aren't quite there, I've done some nice carries into the zone from our end when needed and can move a bit with the puck much better now, but my shot still isn't that great. I'm going to work on my puckhandling skills plenty when or if I get a green biscuit puck. The shot will come with more strength anyways.

But yea, I found I like the Defensive game much better, I'm still learning it and I tend to try the poke check a bit too much and I miss, but I am a good body to at least get in the way. And my passing I would say is pretty good, sometimes I throw one off to a teammate that I know should be where I send the puck and at least he is there.
