Until I hear something from either the Sabres or Pegula I'm chalking everything up as speculation/rumor. I'm still holding out hope that the deal goes through before free agency.

It's a phrase that basically means, if you wanna see the Sabres at the top, turn the rankings.

It makes perfect sense that Pegula wouldn't be there if the sale wasn't a done deal.

We can extrapolate then that the sale probably isn't yet a done deal.

so could they call a special BOG meeting to introduce Pegula? Or would he have to wait until the next BOG meeting? I know sales of this nature take time and can fall apart pretty easy, but i don't like waiting...lol.... I wanna see Quinn pack his desk up and GTFO.... And Id love to see that before the season ends!!!

But don't the NHL owners have to approve Pegula before they can finalize the sale?

I believe so, and Gary doesn't want actual Hockey fans as owners, that would be ridiculous.

They do. However, BTG and Pegula can agree to all terms first, then go for league approval.

Since they haven't gone for league approval (as far as we know), we can safely say they haven't agreed on terms of sale yet.

If I had to speculate, and this is PURE SPECULATION, Golisano is trying to draft a clause in the sale that states the team can't be moved while Mr. Pegula is the owner, and that is whats holding things up. While Pegula has shown no intention of moving the team, he may be using that clause as a bargaining chip to lower the price. Golisano may be a cheap fuck, but he stated he wouldn't sell the team if there was a potential for them to be moved. I believe him in that regard, even though I can't say hes a man of his word, because his digestive tract wasn't destroyed by a microphone after the 07/08 season.

That could be whats holding this up, not to mention the holidays, and and all that good shit.

Looks like the Sabres deal may have been shelved temporarily as Pegula was working on closing on some new offices for his company in Florida:

At the end of the article:

Quote:
Look for Buffalo to be sold to billionaire Terry Pegula in the coming months. To avoid another ownership embarrassment, the NHL is scouring Pegula's history before he can buy the club (reportedly for $175 million) from Tom Golisano.

Perhaps Pegula's company's controversial drilling style has the NHL somewhat concerned.

im sure the NHL is doing their due diligence... i don't see any reason to block his ownership of the sabres...

Oil drilling and owning a hockey club are two way different things.

I don't see how the NHL would even look into their drilling ways.

He's not an oil man, he's a natural gas man, Sky.

His company pioneered drilling practices which are very controversial. It's called hydrofracking and it's been an EPA hot button topic. In fact, in NYS alone, it almost had a moratorium passed banning it. It uses a chemical mixture shot at high pressure at Marcellus shale, fracturing the shale and releasing a massive amount of natural gas. Problem is, it can lead to the chemical mixture leaking into the water table and poisoning land. The companies that use it won't divulge what chemicals are in the mixture because they claim it's an industry secret.

Too lazy to edit previous post...his company may or may not have pioneered the practice but that's how he made his billions.

There's no way in hell the NHL disqualifies Pegula because of that. Not a chance.

It's not really a questionable business practice from the industry stand point. Just an environmental question. And when it comes down to it, he's a proven business guy, and he's shown he A. Has the money to support a team, B. Knows how to manage his money, and C. The will to win, I do not see one single reason why this guy would be disqualified as an owner.
