Whenever the next expansion occurs, likely a generation away, I hope Québec City and Hartford get new teams.

From what I understand the Nordiques fans went down there with the sentiment that the Island doesn't deserve a hockey team. Kind of a bitch reason IMO.

It is hard to sympathize with the Nordiques faithful when they did nothing during their time in Québec City. The Islanders did something more worthwhile, win 4 straight Stanley Cup championships 30 years ago.

What are the present attendance figures for the Islanders?

I'm glad you asked...

Since the lockout the Islanders have ranked 26th, 26th, 25th, 25th, and 27th in the NHL in attendance. They have filled 3,327,970 seats since the lockout which comes to 13,128 seats per game in a 16,234 seat building, or 80% capacity, good for third worst in the NHL since the lockout.

This season they are second to last in the NHL, averaging 10,710 fans per game, or 66% capacity.

With the way they are playing this season, I do not expect attendance improving unless things change in the front office and on the ice. Then, the Lighthouse project remains in limbo. (Two 31-level towers are worse than a single 60-level tower.)

If you want to make a case, go after the islander owner for being like golisano and not really caring about his team. or the fact that milbury and it looks like snow have not restored the team to glory. but i can't see that team being plucked as there is a nice rivalry between the islanders and the rangers and you all know how much the NHL loves rivalries to draw in fans to watch games.

The Islanders' problems begin with lifetime contracts assigned to DiPietro and Yashin. I think that was a Milbury problem.

Snow is doing a better job than Regier is. He played hockey and knows what a team needs.

Charles Wang is embattled against Nassau County to approve redevelopment projects to generate cash flow to renovate existing facilities.

The local radio station said that it wasn't about trying to show up the Islanders. They said that they just wanted to show to the NHL that there is still a strong fanbase up there.

Just going with some speculation I saw.

Yeah, I read that too.

Even if their motivation wasn't to embarrass the Isles, it sure ended up that way.
