Like I said in my last post; it's unlikely that the NHL would turn Pegula away for this, but it's not impossible.

I'd be willing to bet an entire year's salary and my house that Pegula will not be disqualified as an owner due to concerns over East Resources and hydrofracking. I personally feel that it's an absurdity to think that would be even a consideration.

The NHL wants owners that have their own money or legitimate financing, and aren't trying to dictate franchise moves to the NHL. They don't want any more owners (or potential owners) like Balsillie or Del Biaggio. That's all.

It's an absurdity to think that would be even a consideration.

Well played PSP. :)

(I'm not trying to be argumentative. I'm just getting over a sinus infection and don't feel like shit for the first time in 3 weeks, so I'm a bit feisty. :) )

Uh, ok.

Buffalo is the most successful US hockey market. He doesn't hate this town. As big a douche as he is, let's remember that he was instrumental in keeping this team here after the Adelphia debacle.

yeah I know, Im just on a hate Bettmen more than usual kick after the Pens game... Im holding him responsible for the inconsistent, garbage, bull shit officiating that runs rampant in this league...

The issue of hydrofracking is a seperate issue altogether. I'm not saying it's not a legit concern. It has nothing to do with Pegula's fitness to be an owner.

Trying to connect the two is patently absurd. Nobody outside NY/PA cares much about it. It's certainly not an issue generating tons of controversy, absolutely not enough that the NHL would give a shit.

If you were worried about the business actions of NHL team owners, you'd have to kick out about 15 of them. Jeff Vanderbeek, the guy who owns the Devils, was a VP of Lehman Brothers, a far shadier company than East Resources.

Hydrofracking is completely fucked. Blasting the shit out of underground rock and filling the water table with hundreds of chemicals is something I, for one, give a shit about. I haven't bothered to read through all the stuff in here, but if this guy was ever head of a company that does hydrofracking, then he's in the business of fucking people over for $. I'll take a guy who doesn't spend to the cap and runs a payroll service ANY day over that noise.

If he's in the business of fucking people over, then considering his willingness to lose money with the Sabres means he's fucking himself over. Does_Not_Compute.

OK, well maybe he's not in the hockey business to fuck people over, but hydrofracking is really, really bad. You all on the east coast should be far more worried about it than me too, because it's your drinking water that's gonna be flammable if the natural gas industry gets its way. Fuck that shit.

He not only was the CEO and founder of a company that did and still does hydrofracking, he's also very strongly in favor of drilling for crude in the Rockies via hydrofracking.

But he is in the business of energy, and energy makes the world go round. It's merely a matter of time before we see these type of ventures take off, given the cost as opposed to other sources of energy.
Its a world gone mad Stuuuuuu, dog eat dog and winner take all.

If your qualification as an owner is running a company NOT in the business of fucking people over for money, you might as well fold the team.

Besides hydrofracking has been done for over 50 years. You haven't heard a peep about it until recently. I'm not saying that it probably has some downsides, but until there is some solid studies done, I'm not buying the word of people bitching and moaning about it.

A real estate agent fucks people over for money by charging a fee for a service people could do themselves. BUT, no one is going to be physically damaged by that. Compromising water tables and hiding your operations behind a veil of secrecy is a different beast altogether though. Even insider traders or companies that pull Enronesque stunts that take people's retirement funds don't do the kind of damage fracking does IMO. There's dirty money and then there's blood money. It might be hard to avoid coming into contact with dirty money, but it sure beats having your hockey team bought with blood money. That's my opinion.

Mr. Pegula is a decent guy Stuuuuu, by all accounts that I know of.
He's not out to murder people.

I happen to agree with Squanto here in all honesty. If Mr. Pegula wishes to buy the Buffalo Sabres, I see no reason why I should protest it. He is doing something, as Squanto pointed out, thats been done for years now. Why should he be singled out?

Anyone with the interest and the ability should watch the documentary Gasland about hydrofracking, which was made by a filmmaker from rural Pennsylvania, a place very close and very like my birthplace in Cattaraugus County.
