Quinn has NOT given him that chance...

Make no mistake, Darcy got lucky with 05-06 when the rules of the game changed. We got lucky with how our team was. If we the rules were the same way they were 10 years ago, then the sabres in 05-07 wouldnt have been anything. Sorry to say it. Cut Darcy loose at the end of the season.

This is bullshit. You have no grounds for saying the '05 and '06 teams would not have competed. The '05 team especially was very strong from top to bottom. When the rules started to get ignored in '07, many of the players that had made the '05 and'06 teams so good were already gone (Briere, Drury, Campbell, Dumont, McKee, Grier, and yes, even Marty Biron, who as a solid backup goaltender, made those teams better.

That said, management has obviously made some poor personnel decisions that have contributed to the failures we've seen more recently.

From what I found on CapGeek.com, at the end of the season if we don't sign the guys we all assume won't be:

Connolly: 4,500,000
Grier: 1,500,000
Rivet: 3,500,000
Lalime: 650,000
existing cap space: 4,670,171
Gives us 14,820,171

that's if we kept every RFA (Stafford, Gerbe, Sekera, Butler, Webber)and the other UFA's: Niedermayer, McCormick and Montador. I think we can safely say that Monty at least, if not both Nieds and McCormick are coming back. We have a heck of a lot of cap space and with a GM who is under orders to WIN we might see a big shift in who's wearing the Blue and Gold.

We need McCormick. I want Kassian up next year, so we have Kassian, McCormick, and Kaleta.

Ultimate hitting/checking line. OH MY JESUS.

I agree to a point. Kaleta hasn't been his usual effective self this season. It's like he got a bit reserved, maybe cause he got bit by injuries. I like Kassian, McCormick and Kaleta as a solid energy line on the fourth. The only thing I'm concerned about is how Kaleta hasn't been drawing nearly as many penalties as he used to. He used to draw them like fish but not get any minutes himself, which seems to have shifted. He seems to be sitting in the box more and more often.

If you ever notice the refs seem to want to give him a penalty at every chance they get. He's probably not hitting as much as he used to because of the refs watching him.

I can see that. Regardless of why though, he's still not as valuable as he used to be. He would draw shit tons of penalties before so he had that and his hitting. Now his hitting has slumped and he is taking more penalties as well. Don't get me wrong, I love the kid but his worth isn't as high as he once was in my opinion.

Well I think being on a line with Kassian and McCormick would help for sure.

It does sound scary. Just hope we can keep Kassian on a damn leash. Walking the line is good...killing people is bad

If he continues his mean streak in the NHL that's fine. I doubt he will be able to hurt guys as easily as now.

No it really isnt, it is not hard to see that if the who "clutch and grab and trap defense" bull shit continued this team wouldnt have gone anywhere. To disagree with that is bullshit. Ask anyone here, the rule change helped this team excel to the top no one will disagree. Might we have been competitive? Maybe. But doubtful.

I disagree. We had skill. There were plenty of talented guys who weren't dirty back then. Our team was great.

Okay, so. I've been pronouncing his name as Peg-you-la, but I heard it said as Peg-oo-la on WGR the other night. What's the correct nomenclature here?

I don't think anyone knows? Peg-you-la feels natural to me, so I'ma keep using that until he rides in on a unicorn brandishing the ring of Barahir and proclaims to us mere mortals otherwise.

pronounced Terry-dactyl.

The pegula is silent, and the dactyl is implied.

Peg-oo-la is actually the correct way to say it, but it sounds Italian or some sort of Mediterranean so people will fuck it up 3 ways from Sunday every time. Best bet, is say what comes natural. Hell 3/4 of you guys fuck up my last name on a weekly basis while bitching about my opinions

Depends on who you talk to, most people say Vac-Car-Oh; where it's actually supposed to be pronounced Vah-Care-Oh; not that it's ever a big deal to me, because if it were greek, it would be said like Alex said, if it were northern Italy or southern Spain it would be like Mike said, but proper Sicilian translation it's Vah-Care-Oh...so I guess it depends on where you're from. It's kinda like the whole Northern vs Southern thing in the US. They botch some words something awful can't think of any of the top of my head, but ya know it is what it is. Like I said, say what you're comfortable with, and unless the person is a raging intellectual douche they'd never correct you.
