Mancari : .11 GPG
Gerbe : .07 GPG

I agree that Gerbe just doesn't have what it takes to succeed in the NHL, but let's not anoint Mancari as the better player based on .04 GPG difference.

Doesn't matter. He wasn't called up.

From the article:

Quote:
I arrive at the Cumberland County Civic Center at 8:30 on a Tuesday morning in advance of that night's 6:30 start against Worcester.

Portland played Worcester on December 7th at 6:30pm. Mancari was called up on 12/6, and played with Buffalo 12/7, 12/9, and 12/11.

It's okay because we'll have Marcus Foligno!

I believe everyone is forgetting about the fact that T.J. Brennan is going to make it to the NHL roster in the near future and lead us all to glory.

From what I've heard and read Drew Schiestel is arguably our best looking all around defensive prospect right now.

Nick Crawford is having a good season, and Biega is quietly having a decent season too in the AHL. I wish I could see these guys play more often, but always forget when they are on TV

Problem is that if they're an AHL prospect still working on their game, they probably aren't going to be an impact player. Those guys come in the first few rounds and play a year in the AHL at most.

Id like to see Mancary (spelled wrong to piss Phill off, :-) ) ... unload that shot a few times a game... you'd think a couple triple digit shots on net early in the first might make someone think twice in the 2nd or 3rd.... then again a 100 mph shot might not mean anything to the opposing D men and/or goalies...

What do guys who have played think? Would a 100 mph shot make you think twice about going for the block? Does it sting a little in the catching glove of a goalie?

I've blocked some pretty hard shots in my ice playing days and could barely walk afterwards. Taken a shot in the neck, ribs a few times, just above the knee pads to name a few, but it never made me shy away from getting into that shooting lane again. Granted, I'm not standing in front of an AHL/NHL caliber shot, but they all hurt when that puck doesn't hit padding. I always used it as fuel after blocking a shot. If it hurt, I take it personal and use it as motivation to get back out there to either do it again or to prove to the shooter they can't keep me down.

if you take a 100 mph slapper to the hand part of the trapper, you are probably looking at a broken hand. but more often then not, its angled so it funnels to the pocket.

but typically, you cant really raise a 100 mph slapper. its along the ice.

Schiestel is really looking good, but I still like Brennan above him. I've had a chance to catch a few Pirates games this season. Brennan and Schiestel are in a battle in as far as who is the better stay at home type. Brennan needs to work on his breakout game, Schiestel needs to work on his positioning in the offensive zone from what i've seen so far.

But, I'm not closed to either one of them having a go at it next season as the 6th or 7th D man.

If I played goalie and had all the pads on, I don't think I would be afraid to step in front of a 100 mph slapper.

I'm not afraid to try and step in front of the shots guys take in the adult rec leagues and I am only a skater.

Oh No......(and here comes the ancient battle again Squanto) I say give Mancari 41 games and lets see what he can do with Adam as his center and Ennis as his LW.

Why not, it couldn't hurt any this far along into the season. I'd be willing to wager that Mancari scores 15 goals.

eh, a first time goalie, instinct kicks in, and you feel it. after a while, it goes away, and you dont get scared. but even so... you fucking feel it. the only place you dont is the leg pads. even then, it you still feel it.
