Does anyone know if Roy's injury status allows the team any cap relief? With a new owner and $4.2M in cap space already, a few million bucks in LTIR relief could make the addition of a difference-maker a real possibility.

Yea, Roy being on LTIR opens up his annual cap hit to be spent elsewhere.

Cap hit. Unfortunately, not the actual money out of BTG's pocket. And since all Buffalo moves have to be dollar for dollar...

There isn't going to be any moves made for any reason with the sale of the team on the near horizon.

Thats his remaining cap hit right?

Like the 50 games he will miss?

so basically 2/3rd of his ~4M cap hit

I think that's how it works, can you confirm that for me?

If so plenty of guys on the trade block this year that fit into that range.

I know it's a big if, but if we make a playoff run past the first round, is there a chance Roy would be healthy?

Well, if Roy was injured on 12/23 and the recovery time is 4-6 months, then coming back in early May for the second round would be about 4.5 months from the time of his injury. So it's possible.

There's no f-ing way Roy is coming back, no matter what happens in the post season. Incidentally, Montreal looks even more screwed than Buffalo with Gorges and Markov out for the year. Maybe they slip out of the playoff picture soon?

And as for the sale of the team, it looks like it could be a done deal very, very soon. Who knows. I think the only hope left for this season is bringing in a heavy hitter before the trade deadline.

Ok, that's what I figured. That would mean they would get into cap troubles if they pick someone up with similar cap hit and Roy gets healthy in time (I don't know any of the cap rules though). A lot of ifs.

No it doesn't - once the post-season starts, there is no salary cap.

Salary cap is done on a per day basis. Each team can spend $319,355 per day on player salary. If a player is on the active NHL roster at a certain time each day, that day's salary is added in. Salary is calculated based on a 186 day season. Teams cannot exceed the daily cap, and by not exceeding the daily cap they can't exceed the yearly cap.

When Roy goes on LTIR, his daily salary no longer counts against the cap number. For Roy, they save $21,505 per day while he is out.

Fucking A, it still twists my nuts a bit when I hear what these guys make per day.

We're not making the playoffs and if we do, we're not going very far.

I'd rather eat my words, but I don't think any reasonable and realistic move at this point can make this team into a playoff caliber shape. And Terry Pegula can't change that either.

To make the playoffs, we need to play like we belong there. Seems fair to me.

Most of the Sabres already act as if they were hockey players, doesn't work.

It might be tougher to skate with a nine inch pecker, and it increases the odds of getting hit in the penis by a puck or stick. Thank God I'll never have to worry about that.
