I'll guarantee you can't get the 2 from Russian River: Pliny the Elder and Redemption or the Odanata Saison.

Those are California beers that are hard to get in California ;)

You may be able to find the Lagunitas Little Sumpin'...maybe the Great Divide, definitely the Alagash...and that Acai organic thing was just for shits and giggles, I have no idea how widely it's distributed.

Lagunitas makes around 20 different beers so you may want to be more specific than that.

Also, I disagree, but you've probably never had one that wasn't oxidized and abused because you live 3000 miles from their brewery.

after checking around i've learned that it was their IPA...i remember "India" in the name. The problem that i had with it (and this is, im sure, characteristic of the beer itself) is the overly bitter taste. while not a big fan of hops to begin with, it doesnt bother me that much if at all but for some reason (whether something happens to it in transit or something) it tastes like piss to me.

Well, you can't blame an IPA for being bitter...it's in the style guideline ;)
They put that on the label

Quote:
Medium-high to very high hop bitterness, although the malt backbone will support the strong hop character and provide the best balance.

OK, I suppose this is a teachable moment :)

The beer style "India Pale Ale" (IPA) comes from when India was a British colony. They had a hard time shipping beer to their troops without it spoiling along the way. After some experimentation, they found out if they made it stronger in alcohol (which kills bacteria and yeast) and added more hops (which have antiseptic properties) it could survive the voyage.

Higher alcohol and a strong hop bitterness are the hallmarks of an IPA.

If you don't like bitterness, avoid the style...especially west coast American versions like Lagunitas ;)

I tried to get him into a container to spare him his fate, but he got away and I couldn't find him so I went to bed. Alas, he didn't last long as I found the next morning. I will avoid posting that pic due to its graphicness, but it's on my blog.

When I lived out in the middle of nowhere, almost every time I woke up in the middle of the night our cat Grant would be in the tub with a mouse. He always brought them there because then he could play with them before he killed them without fear of their escape. Cats are great.

That's pretty smart. At one point, the mouse darted out (ballsy) and hid under my sister's bed. Only two cats followed. The other two remained convinced it was still under the shelves. D'oh!
