"You know a player left an impression on a hockey town when he's still getting booed four years after his departure, as Briere was Tuesday. And you know a hockey town left an impression on a player when he reminisces about his days here and imagines what could have been under a different owner, as Briere did Tuesday.

"It's always going to be that way; it's always going to be special for me," Briere said. "I had some great years. I had some great memories. For me, my first real start was here. It's when things started happening. Up until a week before free agency, I was convinced I was coming back here. It's what I believed all along, right until the end."

"I want this town to have a good team, an exciting team and a team that's going to be in the playoffs," he said. "I'll never forgot how loud this building was in the playoffs. The walls were shaking in the dressing room when people were leaving after a game. I hope at some point they get that team back."

and thats why i will always love briere. sounds like he never wanted to leave.

drury was a great leader, and i miss him as well. but briere is still a star in this league, and he plays his best hockey in april-june.

now, dont get me wrong, this is NOT another thread on the subject of how buffalo effed up 42 months ago. were all past that i hope. its a message of how much briere loved the town and the team, and in all honesty, i think fans should embrace him in a way they did grier and dumont.

He ought to be happy to see the Sabres become a great team again. They are the reason he was able to show his stuff to the world, and the reason he gets paid 7 or 8 mill a year or whatever. Not to say he hasn't earned his paycheck in Philly, like many were saying two years ago. He deserves every penny he's making and doesn't deserve one single boo.

I suppose it's possible Philly faces cap woes someday, which could open the door to bring Danny back. New management here would surely facilitate the possibility. I know you don't want us harping irony, but keeping Danny would have been the right choice, and our FO choose the wrong guy, who didn't want to be here. If nothing else how could you misinterpret your captain's(plural) desire to remain? Oh boy, this topic will never die.

It's unfortunate that we boo Briere because he wanted to stay very badly, and I wish he would have stayed too.

And I sure hope we get that team back someday too.

I read that article six times, and I have yet to see where Briere talks about how exciting new ownership will be.

Yeah, I was going to comment on that.

Bucky's article title was shit. Nowhere does Briere offer even a hint of a comment that has anything to do with Pegula. He makes generic comments about how he hopes Buffalo gets a good team again.

This article was simply Bucky trying to fill time until the sale goes down.

I'm so over Briere. There is no sense in living in the past and speculating over the shoulda, coulda, woulda. I can admit that he is a skilled player and a very dangerous one at that. The guy can burn you pretty bad with his skills, for sure.

Bottom line is, he isn't a Sabre anymore, he hasn't been a Sabre for quite some time and Bulldog was driving me bat shit insane yesterday with his verbal diarrhea on the '07 debacle. He's now the enemy and when he plays against the Sabres I see him the same as any other Flyers player. He must be eliminated.

/rant.

Briere is a great guy and player. It is sad he left the Sabres, but that was his decision. Our focus should be on our present and future players who will win us the Stanley Cup.

Just because it wasn't directly quoted doesn't mean that it's not the case.

Obviously, Bucky had a conversation with Danny about the whole thing. Briere probably didn't want to be directly quoted on anything because he's a professional, and he didn't want to slight the current owners and operators of this team.

He did give us this though.

Quote:
"I want this town to have a good team, an exciting team and a team that's going to be in the playoffs," he said. "I'll never forgot how loud this building was in the playoffs. The walls were shaking in the dressing room when people were leaving after a game. I hope at some point they get that team back."

To think we could have had him at 5 million per for 5 years.

Bullshit.

Quote:
He almost sounded excited upon hearing about Pegula buying the team with the idea he can win a championship.

The entire premise of the article, that Briere was excited for Pegula, is based on that one line. That's complete and utter horseshit. If you take out all the ownership talk, it's just another story about Briere looking fondly back at his time in Buffalo. That's all. I'm pretty sure Briere doesn't really care who the Sabres owner is.

Bucky is just preying on the excitement that people have about the sale. What is he going to write about tonight, that the Carolina players are glad Pegula wasn't the owner in 06 because they wouldn't have won the Cup?

Okay Tom. There's no fucking way Briere could be excited for the fans in Buffalo. Complete and total bull shit.

I never fucking said that.

I said that the premise of Bucky's article that Briere was excited to see Pegula take over the team is bullshit. I'd be willing to bet that before it was brought up to him, Briere didn't even know these was a sale in the works.
