http://www.wgr550.com/Report--Sabres-On-List-To-Start-Next-Season-In-Eur/8991010

Quote:
ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun is reporting that the Buffalo Sabres are one of six teams invited by the NHL to take part in the League's Premiere Games series in Europe to start the 2011-12 season. The Sabres and the other 5 teams mentioned have not yet accepted the invitation and any talks are in the preliminary stages, according to the report.

Joining the Sabres in the report are the New York Rangers, Anaheim Ducks, Washington Capitals, Los Angeles Kings and Edmonton Oilers. The report states that the series would include six games in as many cities.

That would be great, especially if they would play in Prague.

I bet they'd play in Vienna if they went. Maybe Prague too. Is Prague closer to you?

I think it would be cool.

No, Vienna would be a lot closer, but I doubt they will ever play in Austria. I guess that's not what the NHL would consider a market...Sweden, Finland, Czech Republic are the hockey markets in Europe. They would probably go to Germany (Munich would be great for me) or Slovakia before Austria.

Realistically the Czech Republic (Prague) is the closest they would come to me.

A few years back the Kings played in Austria in a torunament as part of their preseason. It would be awesome if the Sabres would do that.

You never know since the Sabres do have Vanek. He would be a huge draw

When is the NHL going to realize that starting the NHL season in Europe is dumb, having outdoor hockey every year is stupid, having shootouts to decide games is retarded and the having the captains pick all star games is rather lame.

The outdoor games are a smash hit.

It may be in Mannheim, Germany...

I like the thought of Sabres playing in Vienna. Vanek can either score at home or show why he has some issues not playing to his best on some occasions.

There's not the slightest chance that the NHL would play a regular season game in Austria. I could see them playing in a German city that's maybe close to Austria due to Vanek being from here and Hecht being from Germany. Huge market and two players that might draw the local crowd. Munich would be the obvious choice for that... and me being one and a half driving hours away from Munich doesn't hurt either... ;) ;) ;)

Well the entire All-Star game is a joke anyways.

Keep bitching and maybe you'll never get heard.

Truthiness. I guess the team should feel a little embarrassed about it and maybe they can use that to start winning even more games, make the playoffs, and then win the Cup. And then during the on ice celebration say, "Hey I know we don't have any stars on our team, but check out this Stanley Cup."

True. Munich would be great, I would definitely be there. Unfortunately Munich isn't exactly a hockey town. Berlin, Mannheim or Cologne would be more likely if they went to Germany.

I disagree with those two, but the rest is okay.

They should capitalize on this glorious opportunity for a ready-made excuse regarding poor play early in the season.

That would be great! But I root for Prague, it's pretty close to my place. However, there's no Czech player in Sabres and that's what organizers care about the most. Germany is obvious choice this time.

Pass. These events just wear the players out. I really hope they don't, but won't be surprised if they do.

The Europe events may make the players a bit tired, but wearing them out, please they play 82 games, sometimes two in a row or 3 in 4 games, they are conditioned for it, the only thing would be Jet Lag and these games always start at least a week before they ever play a game in North America.

Sure doesn't seem like it wore out the Boston team or even Carolina.
