I do wish our dmen were more aggressive instead of playing sticky-pokey so often when the opposition skates into our zone.

If I had to point out our main issue (besides g/g and ga/g) I would say it's speed. A lot of our players seem to be too slow, therefore our transistion game suffers, we take too many penalties. It also effects hits and blocked shots.
I'm talking about guys like Niedermayer, Grier, Pominville, Connolly and Gaustad.
The second period against the Islanders showed that if a fast team uses their speed we have nothing to match that.

Pretty much, and hitting does not equal a better player at all.

The misconception that hitting equals winning is just plain bullshit. The stat I would want most is time of possession before all others, well except goal scoring and goals against, because the longer you have the puck, the more chances you'll get and more opportunities you'll have.

The more hits you have, the more you're chasing the puck carrier.

not true.

You can hit on the forecheck and sustain o-zone time and cause turnovers which leads to more shots and goals and wins. therefore hitting can help a team win. it also separates players form the puck in the d-zone

The only time you're allowed to hit someone on the forecheck is if you dump it in, you can't just hit players because you feel like it. And hitting is still a defensive part of the game, if the puck is on your stick you aren't trying to hit anyone, only avoid hits.

As I said in the GDT, the call on Rivet was horseshit. The Bruins player was holding onto Rivet's stick like it was the last fucking raft on the Titanic.

If the defense man has the puck you sure as shit are allowed to hit him. And if he falls prone and you have the puck in the offensive zone. Guess what? You just increased the likeliness of helping your team score a goal and win a game. Rendering your aforementioned observation null to the vizznoid.

Exactly. I'm not saying that every player on the team has to be chuck norris, but we haven't been a tight gamed team as of late. Too many holes in our game, and a major one is the inability to pressure the other team with physicality.

Like i've said before, a gaping hole is our lack of blue line use. Other teams use it to draw the other team offsides or deliver a big hit or force a bad pass, and we just let them come on in because our forwards are too far up the ice to compensate.

I call it playing sticky-pokey. A Red Wings special.
