One of the issues I see with Gerbe is he's still in AHL mode. He tryies plays and takes shots that may work in the AHL, but are easily snuffed in the NHL. If he gets out of that mindset he might be able to produce, but I'm tired of watching him send a mediocre wrist shot from 30 feet out through no traffic directly into the goalie's glove.

I'm not basing this off of last nights game only. He's a rookie. They struggle to produce sometimes.

Ack. I hope Gerbe doesn't have a sophomore slump next year.

it was a joke. :) A slump would be 0 and/or a -25 in the plus/minus ratio. :)

I kind of thought playing good hockey = scoring points. Your logic makes no sense..

Make perfect sense.

He could be playing good hockey by doing a lot of things right. He could be positionally sound. He could be forechecking effectively. He could be playing responsible defense when needed. He could be giving a good effort. All those things are part of playing good hockey.

This is not pee wee hockey. He's not being paid to go out and try really hard night in and night out. He's being paid the try hard AND score points.

He's not doing that.

Of course its my own opinion, but I would imagine that the key to learning good hockey is because it's easier to score goals with that knowledge. I think the only thing stopping Gerbe from playing good hockey is that he still has to learn to be better at playing good hockey, and thats on the shoulders of the Sabres coaching staff as the AHL team has gotten him as far as they can (he plays well in AHL). I think Gerbe plays OK hockey, but not good. He continues like last game, which was good hockey, he'll put the biscuit in the basket more often.

Its pretty sad to me after 1 night of a subpar guy tearing it up, but Vanek has 10 points in his last 8 games, and nobody says shit about him producing...

That's because he's overpaid, slow, lazy, fat, streaky, foreign, has twins, whines, misses the net, can't defend, gets in trouble with Lindy, and generally sucks. :liar: :liar:

Vanek takes so much bad press from Buffalo fans that it's almost comical to me. guy has twice as many powerplay points as the total of the next highest player. In less than six seasons he's scored almost as many goals as most of the rest of the team combined (yes, that's an exaggeration) but nobody ever gives the guy his due credit.

You guys crack me up. Coming down on a rookie for not torching the net.

I'm done here.

Nobody is asking for 20 goals.

20 points would be a nice start.

4 career goals in 117 career shots. a .034 lifetime shooting percentage. if he has a wicked wrister and serious talent, in 117 shots, hes going to find the net more then 4 times.

he will possibly get better in the second half. i just dont see him as a long term answer to the sabres plans.

We're coming down on a rookie for having 9 points in 28 games. Saying he's great offensively with those stats is just stupid.

No...we're coming down on the joke which is calling Gerbe "Sir" like one good game now gets him knighted.

tellin ya man, poor shot selection. he takes that wrister from 20-30 feet out that every goalie in the world is going to save.

so, not only is he lacking the skill, he doesnt compensate for it with smart play?

At least that's what I see. Maybe it's pushing too hard, trying to get a shot on net instead of being a bit more patient.

I meant when we were saying Gerbe wasn't good offensively.
