Adhesives would work better in the cold than in the heat at least. If you put the carpet on in warm and let the adhesive or glue dry you won't have a problem, unless it gets really hot.

heres why i ask: im playing in a softball tournament on a frozen lake, and i play outfield. you cant use metal cleats, and my soccer cleats (i wear soccer cleats for baseball) wont dig in cause they are plastic. so i need something to allow me to get some traction tracking down flyballs. its gonna be 30 so.

wouldn't the carpet just get soggy with water and become a bit useless? especially if it becomes heavy with water and slows you down

Get some grip tape, it would work way better than carpet.

Or get some skateboarding tape or whatever is gritty.

Tape always falls off and stops sticking when it gets really cold here. I don't think adhesives work well in extreme heat or extreme cold. And ice is not only cold, but will get wet when skated on.
