BTG is making out more than we thought.

Real_ESPNLeBrun Pierre LeBrun
Am told Sabres purchase price will be $189 million

Sounds to me like Pegs REALLY wants this team if he's willing to drop almost $200m.

Yeah that's a pretty hefty price, especially since the initial rumor was $150 million.

Finally can't wait till this is all said and done and hopefully he changes the way the organization is run. Players will come to Buffalo as long as ownership and management want to win.
I don't expect too many players right away but it's time to start getting rid of the garbage. Tim Connolly, Craig Rivet, Chris Butler, Jochen Hecht, and various others. Get whatever you can for these players. Something is better than nothing.

Buttman just confirmed that Pegula was spoken to today, but didn't say anything more than that.

Um, why would he lie about him being there?

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Terry Pegula made a good impression with the NHL's executive committee this morning while confirming he's plenty suited to take over as owner of the Buffalo Sabres. He met with the five-man panel for less than an hour.

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and Deputy Commish Bill Daly certainly like what they've found in Pegula so far. Both were impressed with his passion for the game and the money he's prepared to put behind the Sabres when he takes over.

"I think he's a good guy," Bettman said after his state-of-the-game news conference in RBC Center. "He has the resources. He's familiar with the area. ... He obviously loves the game. He's investing in it on all levels."

Said Daly: "He was very impressive. He’s down to earth, he’s normal and he spoke about his passion for the game. He spoke about his passion for the Sabres and about this being a lifelong dream to own the Sabres and operate them. And he talked about his vision for the future.

"He has some pretty substantial resources behind the club and making it successful long term. He wants to see it be successful on the ice. It was a good session."

No timetable has been set on the team being sold, but it appears to be a few weeks away. Pegula is buying the Sabres for $175 million and absorbing $14 million in liabilities. Total cost: $189 million. The franchise was valued at $169 million last year by Forbes magazine.

Seeing the sale finalizing, Regier is slowly moving to his next employer, a private men's club.

An interesting look into another side of Pegula...

Pegula drew violations as gas driller

Kind of disappointing to read this. What will Paul Gaustad think?

Didn't really care for that article. Pegula has broken no laws. He's not being portrayed as corrupt.

He's done nothing more than any other business owner that becomes a billionare has done. He's worked within the system to try and further his interests. In my view, TBN tried to portray Pegula in a somewhat negative light by bringing up his safety records of his former company, and his political contributions. I'm not sure why any of that has any bearing on his potential ownership of the Sabres.

The report found that East Resources Management LLC ranked third among about 45 drillers cited for violations during that period. Using a different measure, which takes the size of a company's operation into account, the violations worked out to about 4.1 per drill. That ranked the company seventh highest, well above the overall average of 0.65 violations per well.

A sister company, East Resources Inc., had a much better track record, and when data of the two companies is combined, their violations per well were slightly better than average, according to further analysis by The News

It's amazing how little they emphasis this point in the article.

EDIT: Also, about an hour ago:

DarrenDreger Darren Dreger
Terry Pegula met with the NHL's Exec Board this morning. He's really close to buying Sabres. This mtng moves him a step closer.

Pretty much expected this. The NHL wasn't lying when they said the sale wasn't on the agenda at the full meeting, because it was on the agenda for the exec board first.

It's also telling that neither BTG or LQ are reported to have attended the full BoG meeting today. Seems like they've checked out already.

Larry Quinn...what's actually better/worse....a Larry Quinn that's checked in or checked out?

The price tag is supposedly $189M. Golisano bought the team for under $60M right?

Is it too much to ask for Golisano to cut the price so maybe we're a buyer at the trade deadline. IMO he owes us a Briere level player.

That's what ticks me off about this..Golisano lines his pockets and a fraction of his pocket lining should have paid for Danny Briere...and not his next election run for NY or FL Governor.
