Look how fast Philly turned it around. They were one of the worst in the league and then signed unrestricted players Danny Briere, Kimmo Timonen and Scott Hartnell. That was a quick turnaround in my opinion.

But do you forget Carter, Richrads, Girous, JVR, Bobs were all drafted by the Flyers.

Yes they did change it around pretty quickly too, just like Chicago, but it comes more from better drafting, and that's what they did.

Most teams should be able to turn around a losing team in around 2-3 years, a losing team is one that is almost dead last in the league, the Sabres aren't one of those teams. You get a few more players and you'll have a really solid roster.

Pegula should be able to do the right thing with the team. As long as Quinn is gone the team can spend the money it needs to be a perennial winner and make the playoffs year in and year out. You make the playoffs every year, you're bound to get more and more money every year from it.

The Sabres have already done some good drafting.

Ennis, Myers, Weber, Adam, Gerbe, Kassian, Foligno.

Roy is still locked up. So is Miller.

Bring in some other forwards who know how to play hockey, and we have the potential to be a very good team.

Exactly, everyone who thinks this team is years away is mad. You look at the players we have, and the young guys we have coming up the future of the Sabres is only looking up up up.

Unfortunately, we have a few bad contracts, or players not living up to said contracts.

Looking forward to thursday

The Globe and Mail is reporting that Quinn will be stepping down immediately.

Quote:
At this point, the only change in Sabres management will see Quinn step down once the sale becomes official. He operated the team for Golisano ever since the Rochester, N.Y., billionaire bought the Sabres out of bankruptcy in March, 2003. While Pegula is expected to review every area of the Sabres’ operation, general manager Darcy Regier is expected to remain in place for now.

I'd support any one of the French Connection, but I personally would like Renee Robert as HC.
I'd like Martin and Perreault in the front office. Just my personal preferrence is all.

bob boughner has had my vote since early in the season when we were all aboard the "fire lindy" train.

Getting rid of Connolly, Rivet, Butler and possibly Pommers and a few others will help. I like Pommers but not at his current pay.

To be fair, it's the Globe and Mail. Might as well be Eklund as far as I'm concerned. :p

Boughner is with Columbus and probably won't leave.

I have no problem with Butler, he is 24 and isn't breaking the bank, plus he plays defense, it's not a spot you learn overnight.

Pommers, well sorry to say, he earned his contract and hasn't played up to it since. Give him a swift kick in the ass is about all you can do, his play has picked up slightly last month though.

Connolly and Rivet are both as good as gone for next season. Rivet should seriously think about retiring and Connolly just needs to be on a different team.

Butler doesn't really effect the game to game happenings of this team. He's a good spare part to have laying around.

My thoughts are Connolly, Rivet, Hecht, Grier, and Niedermayer.

My point on Butler is this team is loaded with Defensive prospects and that makes him more expenable. If we didn't have a handful in Portland and in juniors it would be different.

As far as Connolly, Rivet, Hecht, Grier and Niedermayer they can all go and getting back something is better than losing them for nothing.

I would bet my house that Connolly , Rivet, Grier, and Niedermayer are out of here after this year. I don't think that anyone should lose 1 minute of sleep about those 4.

Hecht, probably just going to have to suck it up for one more year. 3 roster players and 1 bench monkey gone leaves a lot of openings, and Hecht is a warm body.

I see what you mean then. And that's fine too.

And those 5 players yes, get rid of them as soon as possible.

You'd be fortunate to get a late round pick for Connolly or Hecht, especially at their salaries. The other 3 guys are playing out the string until retirement. They have almost no trade value at all.

I would be happy with a bag of pucks and some new sticks that Pommers can hit the net with and not the goalie's chest!

The stick doesn't have much of anything to do with how Pommers shoots the puck or aims his shots.

I know he needs a stick that doesn't shatter and one that he can hit the net with!

Every player shatters sticks, that's the joy of composite sticks, they just break without warning.

Where's Randy Cunneyworth these days? I seem to recall that he was very good for us in Rochester. In my opinion, when he left the usefulness of our call-ups declined. He worked well with Ruff (which is NOT a bad thing!).
