I've known dozens of people with iPods who have never had those problems.

My friend, Alex, just had her original iPod Video (6 years old?) JUST die on her.

Sounds like you ran into some bad luck, Mike.

Ed, I disagree with you about closed systems being a losing long term strategy. The iPhone is popular device because of the user experience.

As long as Apple maintains that experience, the iPhone will continue to sell by the million, and the gold mine will be too temping for developers to ignore.

Developers have to work a little harder than they do on other platforms, but the end result is a much better product.

ok. its not like i called the companies and said, hey, throw in some better processors.

clearly, these phone companies are throwing in these faster processors for a reason. so, i dont get the big deal.

I'm just saying there isn't a point in it in a phone.

You won't see any noticeable difference with a phone, so why waste the money on some tiny piece of hardware just to say you have it?

We're not running full CS6 Photoshop or whatever they are on now and huge audio mixing programs where dual, quad of even hex core is a necessity, or different movie editing services.

It's a phone, programs don't need it to run so I see no point in putting dual core processor's in a phone.

This is what they should be working on instead.

Actually Sky, Apple offers movie editing on the go on the iPhone. Compressing videos for mobile transfer also takes some time.

Dual core processors would be very advantageous for these things.

Oh nice Adam, didn't know that, but I guess that would help out a bit, but it's not like you're going to go full out and make a full feature film on an iPhone though.

Mike, it's a joke, some people actually believed that to be a real phone.

When exactly are you compressing a video for the mobile format when the video is already in the mobile format since it's on the phone?

Wrong. It's in HD, which creates large file sizes. That makes these videos difficult to upload over current mobile networks.

If you want to send video in a text, email, or upload to Facebook or youtube, the iPhone automatically compresses it first.

Anyone who actually uses a tiny cell phone to edit video is mentally challenged FWIW.

Not touting it as a feature. It actually annoys me. I wish the networks were good enough to upload HD. They will be someday, but not now.

I'm just citing an example of where dual core processors would come in handy on cell phones.

It doesn't compress. It downscales to 568x320. Significant difference, especially in the CPU department.

I doubt that Apple would ever add on-device compression, even with a dual-core chip. That's a hefty chore for a mobile device in the battery department.

What I mean is, a phone...any phone...is the wrong friggin device for video editing of any sort.
Take your video and move on.

Exactly.

I can see the appeal on a phone to do a quick, basic crop or something like that, but using a cell phone to do video compression or other more advanced tasks like that is just dumb.

And that's why I see no point in a dual core or more phone.

Like you said, all it will do is kill battery life even more.
