Why are they banning it? Because smoking is bad for you? That's rich. Probably because it's a potential threat to cigarette companies.
No, let me explain. This isn't a ban on the product but a ban on smoking it in bars and the like, just like the smoking ban. Just uppity anti smokers who don't want "smoking" of any kind.....even if it's just vapor.
i don't know if it's the same everywhere but i think the government has control of the cigarette industry. if that's true then fly's argument is pretty strong.
They aren't trying to ban them, as in make them illegal. They are trying to lump them right along side with cigarettes and say that you can't smoke them in bars, restaraunts etc. This isn't about threatening cigarette companies from what I can tell because they aren't restricting them anymore than normal smokes are. There are just a few uppity people who hate smoking of any kind and despite having no reason other than E-smokers are icky, want them banned from public places.
Quote:
Before more of the devices are sold to adults, Rosenthal wants the FDA to rule on whether they actually help smokers quit. The New York Assembly approved her bill last year, but it has yet to pass the Senate. If New York passes the bill, it would become the first state in the nation to ban e-cigarettes.
this means indoor-only ban? i don't see what i'm missing.
Most states that are looking at this are talking about a simple public space ban. There are people who want this (and rightfully so) to go through the FDA process to make sure we're not inhaling mercury or any crazy shit. The FDA research as well as the folks (I imagine) at NIDA studying it would be able to see if this actually helps people to quit smoking, but since it is a nicotine subsitute similar to gum or patches, it should pass just fine.....as long as there isn't any other added crazy health problems unique to it. That has nothing to do with a ban on them, just a desire to make sure they are safe and effective before selling more.
So bottom line.....in-door ban is what some representatives are pushing for. Others are pushing to get these things studied by the right people to make sure they are safe and effective so the public has a better idea of what they are getting. I agree with getting the FDA to look them over, I don't agree with stopping people from using them in bars simply because smoking is icky.
So going back to what you orginally said about the government being in league with the cigarette companies and this being a way to keep these devicies from threatenting them.....it's not true.
