Drury signed a contract to stay here. It wasn't signed off on by ownership. I would say that that's indicative of him wanting to stay here.

But, not worth the argument.

i have never ever heard that.

You obviously haven't been with us for too long. I couldn't find the whole article, but thankfully, I was able to find this snippet for you:

In his interview, they asked him if he expected to be here next season. He said yes. When asked if he has had talks with Pegula, he said yes.

That's simply a formality. What is he going to say, no? That would be foolish of him to say that.

Not getting my hopes up about Darcy being gone.

I'm really excited about this deadline.

Hard to say. Darcy very well may expect to be here next year, and as the current GM, one would expect that he would have had some kind of talks or meetings with the new owner. But going back on what Tom mentioned, if T-Pegs doesn't want him here, he won't be here.

Kinda like anyone's position or work... Every day you wake up, you expect you're going to work and that you'll be there until further notice. Barring anything major or drastic happening, you'll have your job until the wigs above decide they need to make a personnel change in your department. So, until Pegula says yay or nay, Darcy has control of the ship to an extent.

Regier is under contract for next year and beyond.

Unless Pegs told him that he's being fired, his only answer is that he'll be here.

Terry Pegula released the following statement following Thursday's press conferece at the HSBC Arena announcing his purchase of the Buffalo Sabres.

"As diehard fans of the Buffalo Sabres, the Pegula family would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Tom Golisano and Larry Quinn on their commitment to the hockey fans of Western New York and their dedicated stewardship of the franchise. Without their generosity and perseverance through tough economic times and league labor issues, there would not be a team for the Buffalo hockey community to support. We will be forever grateful for their efforts in developing one of the best markets in the National Hockey League, and providing the foundation for future successes. My wife Kim and I are hopeful that the league's approval process of our intent to purchase the franchise will move swiftly and we can begin the next era of Buffalo Sabres hockey in the very near future."

Listening to WGR... Realize that Golisano was a CARETAKER. He bought the Sabres to keep them from leaving town! He was doing a nice thing & helping out the people of Buffalo! Why rip him because he didn't build a Stanley Cup winner? The guy NEVER CLAIMED to be a big hockey buff. He bought the team to keep it for us, the people of Buffalo, until the right guy came along. End of story. He dragged the Sabres out of bankruptcy and all he asked was to break even! LET. IT. GO.

lol, it's kind of like white noise while I'm at work. When they mentioned that word had finally been spoken/typed/txt'd/tweeted or whatever, I tuned back in and grew a massive boner.

Now, white noise again

Golisano is a HERO.. Not taking $70 million dollars extra to keep them in Buffalo.. Tom, you're the man..

Can we build a statue of Golisano? For real..

Not arguing, just clarifying. My take is that Drury signed an offer early in 06-07, the Sabres (Golisano) waited to sign the contract because they weren't sure how it would affect the team if Briere wasn't signed. Drury took that as a non-commitment, whether because they didn't sign him or weren't planning on extending Briere. He then made up his mind to play for his hometown heroes, and by then Briere knew he wasn't the priority in Buffalo and knew he could make more with a big market club.

If the Sabres had decided to extend Briere first over Drury, everything would've panned out differently. Maybe even both would've stayed, but then we'd be without Vanek and another player (Hecht or Roy perhaps). The results of that scenario can be debated forever with no clear winner. We have to get over it and look forward to better days under Pegula.
