I guess 2 since there wasn't some sort of injury. Deserves 5 if they're serious about the headshot rule.

Very similar to the Neil hit.

These are the kind of hits I hate. It's one thing if a guy has his head down and never sees the hit coming, completely different for these type of hits when the guy cant see the hit coming because its from the side or behind.

I'm willing to bet that he thought Sawada was going to come square across the zone, opening up for a clean hit. He didn't quite turn all the way, and Paille was taking a big chance in the first place. I'll say one game...should be 4-6.

Yeah, that first replay didn't look too bad but the second one from the other angle looked nasty.

I'll wager 2 games as well.

I say he doesn't get suspended. It was a blindside hit, but I don't think there was contact made with his head.

You're probably the only one who doesn't think that. Second replay shows it pretty clearly.

Oh, and there's this.

Just seen the clip of this one on TSN. Although he didn't lead with his elbow, there was contact with the head via shoulder and it was a blindside hit. I haven't followed Paille since he left Buffalo, but I didn't think this was his style.

I'm gonna guess 2 games.

I agree with you that there was contact to the head, but this is the second time you have used the penalties that were handed out to say say "Well there ya go....see?" Since when is what the refs dish out concidered concrete proof? Hell, we disagree with at least a quarter of the shit they do call, and 3 quarters of what they don't call so how can you use it as proof? Again, I agree with this call on Paille but using the ref's calls as proof isn't strong evidence.

2nd angle looks like there could be a collision with his head, but I don't think it was there. I think the first angle is the most telling. It shows that it was shoulder to shoulder.

I also think that if he really did collide with his head at that speed, he wouldn't have been getting up.

I'll take another look at it, but I still think the head contact wasn't there.

EDIT: Definitely not head contact. I slowed it down and took a screen shot. You can clearly see it's body on body:

After watching it again, I agree with PSP. HARD as HELL...but shoulder to shoulder. Surprised the shit out of the guy but I don't see any head contact at all. His head gets whipped back from impact but their shoulders hit square.

It was one component of my argument. It wasn't the entire thing.

My point was that you can see the contact to the head, and the officials called it as contact to the head, so it was fair to say that it was contact to the head.

Watch the front on view, :57 on the YouTube vid. Paille's elbow clearly comes up and makes direct head contact.

EDIT: Not to mention that the head whips around before the body and shoulders move, which is also clearly indicative of head contact.

I've been sitting here watching the replay and I still don't see any head contact. At normal speed in the heat of the game I can understand why they would think that but in review with it slowed, nope. As for the :57 mark, Paille's body is in the way, you can't even see his other shoulder and thus can't see where the contact was made.
