Yeah, Apple are upgrade Nazis...it's a great way to force people into a new set of expensive hardware.
I've got a PowerBook Titanium collecting dust if anyone wants to buy it....since Apple no longer makes an OS for it.

My wife couldn't install iLife 11 this weekend because I haven't upgraded her MBP to Snow Leopard yet.

Caught that this morning. Leads me to believe the iPhone 5 will be carrier neutral, although the flip side of them doing that is hurting handset sales if you could switch like that.

Might be the price point of the MDM6600, who knows.

Well they also mentioned the integrated GPS...probably trying to save power as much as possible.

Probably.

I'm still holding off. I want to compare the iPhone 5 and next Droid X model, see how they stack up.

You don't lose your library by downloading a new version of iTunes.

updating you dont... but if they make you download the new new version the apple cat said it could eat the library...

Oh I understand...your software can be up to date but still not be running their latest OS.
My gripe is they expire hardware with OS upgrades.

If you've got a mac without an Intel processor, you're SOL.

Oh, and 10.4 is pretty damn old ;)

thats my computer illiteracy, i actually thought the OS WAS part of the software...

Im rolling with the 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 1 GB 667 MHz RAM ... so I think i have the Intel part down....

and as long as my OS update dick shows up, hopefully I'll be ok... cause I really don't want to buy another computer...

by the way, will an OS update make this thing run a little smoother? It seems to have slowed down a bit from when I first picked it up...

Depends on a lot of things, but it shouldn't hurt.
EDIT: actually, 10.6 is the version where they dropped PPC support, you should get a performance boost.

And yes, you have an Intel processor so you'll be fine...you were basically 2 major revisions of OSX behind.

The major revisions of OS X don't show up in Software Update because it's those are retail software updates. IE, you gotta pay to get them.

The important thing to remember about phones is that not all networks work the same in different areas.

Where I live, AT&T is awesome. I have 3G everywhere and it's fast as hell.

Verizon is about the same, but their 3G isn't as fast.

But that's just small town USA. Verizon is obviously better than AT&T in other areas.

I have 3G everywhere around me on ATT also. I've never had problems with it either.

I'm on the fence. I'd rather wait for the iPhone 5, but my existing 3GS has a spot of dead pixels that's growing, and a couple screen scratches.

I'll probably just suck it up and wait.

Not very surprising. The phone went on sale to current Verizon customers 7 days ago, when they sold more phones in their first 17 hours than any phone's launch in the carrier's history.

This was the release to the general public. And there aren't as many defectors from AT&T as originally planned.

That, or as intelligent iPhone users, they're waiting for the iPhone 5 to jump ship.

I'm staying with AT&T.
